Avondale Jockey Club has had repeated acts of vandalism over the month of January to the point you arrive on course and you think you entered a war zone. Smashed computer monitors, shattered windows, tagging and glass etching. Alcohol and food have also been stolen and a member was robbed of his mobile phone on the premises last week. Club members have seen youths loitering around the premises and many are under the age of 14. Very sad reading, police and security patrols have not been able to close down the attacks, Must be tied down with breath testing, get someone up in the stand like the American Sniper and shot a few that stop it all. Visitors have regularly arrived on the property since January 2 to discover smashed computer monitors, shattered windows, tagging and glass-etching. Alcohol and food have also been stolen and members fear the attacks could escalate after one of their own was robbed of his mobile phone on the premises last week. Club president Allan Boyle said the club - which reopened in 2013 - has been trying to refresh its set-up and re-establish itself as a successful race track. The organisation suspended racing in 2010 after 120 years because of dwindling crowd numbers and mounting debt worth more than $2 million. "This vandalism is directed at us specifically and is hurting," Boyle said. "Through January at times it has looked like a war zone." Boyle said the damage is having "quite a significant financial impact" on the club. Secretary-manager John Craig said the club has been welcomed back "strongly" since reopening and has invested "hundreds of thousands" into upgrading the racing surface. "It's quite demoralising. We are a community asset," Craig said. "It's not just the damage, it's the man hours involved in cleaning it up. But we no sooner clean it up and it's back again." Club members have seen the youths "loitering" around the premises and Boyle says the belief is that many are under the age of 14. "As a community-based outfit here in Avondale we are asking the locals - including politicians and businesses - for help. "We have contract security patrols, we use the 111 emergency system and the community policing. "So far neither our security firm nor the police have been able to close down the attacks." Has anybody bothered to ask around not only businesses but residents who may have such cameras operating? There's more than one way to set a cat amongst the pigeons. Avondale have had repeated issues with broken windows in the past and someone who repairs them must have done very well out of doing so. Shocking all around. Maybe they need to set up a webcam camera with livestreaming links on to monitor from a distance and catch them that way. After all it's what these thugs do to others when involved in fights etc and then put them on U-tube and facebook to brag about it. Has anyone got photos of the "tags" they can upload on here? Others may recognize the same 'tags' from other areas. It all helps catch them faster. Hard to police when these shit-bags can just come and go as they please, regarding the site as open terrain rather than private property. Was just thinking at the Trials the other day that the Club needs to knock down the large, un-used stand if some-one can be found to build apartments in it's place--would offer mutual security. These people have no respect for themselves or other people, let alone other people's belongings. I still think catching them and making them pay reparation and putting in hundreds of hours community service should be a deterrent to future offending. Either that or the purple solution. I agree.....But over the years we have had some that have taken the law into their own hands and landed in a bag of poo..... Naming and shaming is better than nothing.....at least everyone can see who the offending, good for nothing crap heads are.... While the majority of the offenders family probably couldn't care a less.....I am sure there would be a few scum out there that would not be happy that their family knew what they had been doing..... On facebook at the moment.....a shot of 2 thugs that have burgled a building. Nice clear shots.....and someone has even offered a $1000 reward!! A few years ago...they would have got away with it.... Mind you.....those 2 hornbags rooting in the ROBOBONK building in chch might have got away with their little adventure too a few years ago!!!
