What bookings have you made?

That was good buying Megan, she is a really nice mare and leaves a nice type too. Apparently the Ekraar goes really well at Eclipse Racing Stables.

Great thanks Nick, Rudy went and picked her up today and I think we will just foal her at home (lucky I'm an insomniac!), so hope all goes well. Do you know what her foalings go like?

Fellow mugs and dreamers. What are fellow breeders thoughts on Spartucus. Thinking of breeding to him but am just a bit hesitant due to big books and just ok results so far. Can he throw good sized foals from average sized mares. If I am being a bit harsh or judging him too soon happy to be told so.

Only firm bookings - Perfectly Ready & Indy King. 1/2 share mare to Any Suggestion.

Will work out any more after our 2 girls give birth early Sept. They will be SI sires.

We're going to Patapan to take up a LFG for a mare & foal we lost foaling last season. If it wasn't for the LFG our mare would be staying put at home this year. We will see what is around next year after she foals.

We went to the sales & bought a weanling & when you can buy a correct, well grown weanling for less than $1000 it makes the stud fees & 11 1/2 month wait for a foal look a bit bleak.

Have sung his praises before - bred very similarly to More Than Ready - a great type with wonderful temperament. We have an outstanding filly here and another very nice one and 3 mares pregnant to him this season. Selwyn River Stud has a little bunch of the most impressive foals with such great temperaments - all come up for a pat, coming up to yearlings. Worth taking a look at. Have seen others Edenwolds - also super. I really believe he will make his mark in NZ and we are very lucky to have him down here. Happy to show off our fillies for anyone wanting to take a look. :):):)

Went to Selwyn River yesterday to check on my mare (in partnership) agisting there & was happy to find her in excellent condition - absolutly blooming in fact. For anyone looking for quality agistment, look no further. Mares can be walked into any Christchurch stallion from there. Glyn is now specialising in good quality agisment.

Saw Edenwold & was impressed all over again. He is a stunning individual.

Next went to see his yearling foals (about 10 or so) They have to be the the most friendly, well conformed youngsters you could wish to see. Great types and legs fantastic. I will look forward to seeing some of them at next years SI sale & on show for people to judge for themselves. Foals go through a multitude of changes from weanlings to yearlings. These guys are all wellgrown with temperaments to die for, just like their sire. I just never had enough hands to pat them all at once. I am looking forward to my 3 mares producing their Edenwold foals in Sept & our two fillies we already have are correct with the best legs you could wish.

As I said, am happy to show them off. :)

Hi Meg - some vets hire out foaling alarms which are fantastic - floodlights are another must to help. Good luck

Brucee - we had to bring our nice looking Spartacus gelding home from SI sale & his damline is that of Danehill Dancer. We have also trying to sell a Spartacus filly on Gavelhouse - over 400 'hit's" 2 inquiries & that is that and she is not expensive. Lovely looking sound girl

It will be interesting to see how this sire stacks up...initial sales were good and an early trial winner. Was that a flash in the pan or will others show to advantage too?

Hopefully good as Justa Tad is currently in foal to him :)

Have just booked a co-owned mare into this outstanding guy. His progeny were a credit to him at the SI sale. Just know in 3 years time when our Remind will be two that there will be plenty of winners ahead of (hopefully HER)! :)

Kay I agree, the Reminds looked lovely types at the South Island Sales, and I was disappointed for Myles and Debbie that the buyers just weren't there to appreciate them. Overall it was an awful sale, and certainly a reflection of the depressed state of the economy. Unfortunately, I think a lot of breeders will be leaving their mares empty as a result of this.

Kay and Pam thank you for the nice comments about Remind, we have had so many positive comments about the temperament and type he is leaving.

Lot 54 was a nice type but unfortunely her problem was her gender a filly, the Sth Island sale is normally hard on the fillies but this year it was even harder. I know of some that were not even taken out of their box until they walked to the sales ring. :(

Has anyone noticed that this horse has only two offspring at the races and both winners so far - and certainly not from the best mares in the world. He certainly has the pedigree so could be intersting in the future.

Rubiton was a champion racehorse and champion sire - just google him for details. He has set records as a sire. He won over a million dollars in the 1980's. Perhaps Ruby (Ruby's Jester) has his genes - he is certainly one of the kindest horses to be around. Let's hope more of his progeny hit the tracks before long.

We're sending our 2 mares to Express Duke...lovely horse & really good natured. Can see how he raced for so long..good sound conformation & brain.

$500 fee great value & as we're breeding to race on our own account....doesn't matter that he's not fashionable!

Fergus, I can assure you that Raise The Flag has the wow factor. Gallant Guru is a lovely strong boy but for me I am rapt that we have booked 2 mares in to Raise The Flag, he is just my type of stallion. ;)
