Crashed 4 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 It's been a few years since i lasted posted on this site but the NZ TAB has driven me to drivel. Warning, this is going to be long and full of , justified, complaints. A few years ago the TAB annouced that they wanted to become an international site. A site that attracted international customers. I'm guessing that was about 5 or 6 years ago and to date they have failed miserably. In fact they have gone backwards in driving their home base away with their utterly appalling service. The problem they have is that they are Monopoly and operate like a boys own club. It's not what you know but who (A La Chris Woods). This Christmas period has finally done me in where they have down more often than they've been running. This is nothing new, it happens evrey year around this time weather you're at home or at the track. The official reason is a "Cyber Attack". Well i got news for you. The TAB is a rather large minow in a small puddle. Think who would attack you ? If you can't handle that then time to invest in a new IT team as your current one is not up to the task despite what they tell you. As a semi professional punter i use a lot of online sportsbooks and everyone of them has suffered an attack of some sort. And, everyone one of them has fixed the problem within an hour. The online TAB has been down for 2hrs+ (and still down at the time of writing) and still you can't find those "Gremlins". In the normal world, those other sites would put up an apology notice on their site, not the TAB, they're too good for that. They would also post regularly on twitter with updates and allow you to retwitter with questions etc. Not the TAB. I know i've tried twitter. More complaints. As i alluded to earlier, i'm a semi proffesinal punter who concentrates on sports betting. I use the tab for fun for horse racing. No serious punter would ever consider the TAB. The sports they offer is extremely limited and the odds, at best, are average. Plus, they are the only online betting outlet that closes down at night, Bizzare. In conclusion, the TAB has got to stop patting itself on the back every financial year and get over it's severe lack of vision and move forwards. A long way forward. Stop looking at it's customers as $'s and look after them. Do that and the $$'s will follow. For me, i'm done with them. There are plenty of other outlets that allow me to bet on NZ Racing which offer better odds and not just Australian TABs. Nearly forgot, on as positive note, well done TAB on offering free streaming on your site (When it's up). You're only 3 or 4 years behind the rest of the world. Bear 30 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 Hmmm...... You say "I'm a semi professional punter" and then, in the same paragraph; "no serious punter would ever consider the TAB" So, does that make you a non-serious semi-professional punter? And if you are what you say you are, and you "use a lot of online sportsbooks" then what is the problem?
Crashed 4 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 First of all i wasn't boosting my ego by self promotion but rather bemoaning the attempts of the TAB of providing a credible service, which they are not (Still down 3 hrs later). To clarify, i'm a working man, like yourself, who supplements their income with sports wagering. I did try it full time but , i personally, could'nt handle the grind. Try it and you'll know what i mean. This time of year i take a break from sports betting and have some fun with the local hoirse racings. It's convenient to use the TAB not least because thats the only option i have at the the track (Wi Fi not available) and at the local pub if i'm there.Or as like today, i settled down for a good day of racing but can't bet online. The TAB promotes a service and are happy to take my money (Which i accept that i may lose) but , unfortunately, that service is pretty damn poor. Guest 2Admin2 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 I suspect the problem is not what they say it is. There are infrastructural issues I'm sure as there have been latency issues for a long time. The video streaming has man it worse. They need a good trouble shooting problem solver and I know one or two.

Crashed 4 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 I agree. Streaming does seem to have made the problem worse. It happens with a number of sites. Their solution is to turn it off. Not Hi tec is it. Either way, they really do have to question their IT team. If this was a privately owned company...heads would roll. And, like hedley said, i'm dreading tomorrow. hedley 1,900 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 the truth of the claim that the problem was Hackers...now that it's day~6 for the problem, and that today we're now 4hours 'down' since being 'up', evermore lacks veracity. we've had 'meltdowns' on other major days..and those too took too long to fix, just like this one., i think the IT technicians that the t.a.b. have..are only 'wannabes' . . .they don't seem to have the skills or nouse at All quite typical of the whole organisation And our industry overall Portfolio and Phantom
Portfolio 728 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 Spot on Crashed....... What does New Years day have in store for punters??
beerwithduncan 724 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 Very good question. I've seen nothing to indicate there will be any change. Just an unworkable site that punters are rapidly losing confidence in. I wont be using the NZ TAB tomorrow. On big days I turnover between $300 and $800. There will be many like me. My business will go offshore where I have confidence. Not only is the TAB losing income they are losing a lot of goodwill and more and more customers. Betting on horses can be fun and enjoyable but not so enjoyable that punters will put up with this crap day after day especially at this time of the year. People are off work and have a more time for things such as betting. We have some quality racing to choose from yet that all counts for zero if these clowns cant sort out their website. My confidence in them now at an all time low. They just flat out don't deserve my business. hedley, von Smallhaussen, Phantom and 3 others
Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 Due to the TAB losing income over their own ineptitude they are also losing precious funds that will not be available to stakeholders in terms of prizemoney and the maintenance of infrastructure. The industry leaders - trainers assoc., owners association, jockeys association and the clubs themselves need to demand answers as to why their IT team cannot cope with the current issues. Someone is ultimately responsible. gubellini, Phantom, Ashoka and 2 others

They have done nothing to deserve that and every day give more reasons why that decision is one of the worst and short-sighted ever made by government.
