Ashoka ..the life of our Industry, and lives of those within it..is No dress Rehearsal., it's about time some inovation and value was instilled into each and every day at the races http://www.racecafe.co.nz/forums/index.php/topic/41600-settlement-of-defamation-proceedings-full-retraction-by-zzz-zzzzz/?p=354920 (post#57) this'd immediately bolster and grow oncourse attendences..and each club would make more profit, and the public'd pay less for their beer or Ale

Ashoka I hate entrance charges at the races because it's $20 I would've punted.... BUT how many of those going on Boxing Day will bet $20?? do people worry about entrance fees when it costs the same to go to the movies, or more to the cricket, rugby etc etc?? what is the gate charge revenue? is there an economic argument it makes sense? Bottom line I tend not to pay entry fees because I am a member at Riccarton, Addington look after me, if I travel I give the club a call in advance and they leave me tickets (eg Ellerslie, Taranaki and kempton park in England in the last couple of months...) I hear what you guys are saying - but are you just complaining ??? If $20 puts you off are they in fact losing anything by you not turning up? Merry Xmas btw

Merry Xmas btw You might be right Col, and this is just an individual view. We were planning to go when I thought I heard it was free entry but probably won't now. So, they don't get the $60 gate fees, the 100-200 turnover on food and drinks and maybe $500 -1000 wagering revenue amongst us. Not much, but more important I think, 4 newbies didn't get introduced to racing with a great day out. The team has chosen instead a trip to Mangatainoka the next day. Still a $20 entry fee, but that includes a free Tui handle and 3 beers. No contest from their standpoint.

puha 2,177 Report post Posted December 24, 2014 $20 does sound excessive for an entry fee.Think if the customer is given say a racebook , pen and maybe a $4 easy bet in exchange they won't feel ripped off.Lets face it 90% of people walking on course are going to leave with less in the pocket than when they arrived let's make them feel like winners as they walk through the gates instead of feeling like there already $20 behind or even worse stay home. You are calling clubs in advance .....to get a free entry ticket???? Then asking the question.......are you all complaining about paying $20? For mine, it does not matter where you go these days, most things cost a buck. But to have many on here moaning about a $20 entry fee.....tells me that most do not see a day at the races worth that amount. A bit sad if $20 bucks makes a difference. redrew2000 134 Report post Posted December 25, 2014 Why not offer everybody on course the opportunity to become an owner for the day. Every person who pays the $20 entry fee receives a card with a horse on it and becomes a part owner for the day. This card will show all the details about the horse and entitles them to owners privileges for the day, talking to the real owners, pre race drinks etc. After the race if the horse wins then the one day owners win some prize money by virtue of the original $20 collected from all day owners. At least then every race would be well supported,by dayowners backing their horse and vocally by them yelling for it. This would create an emotional attachment between racegoer and horse which could flow over to future race days where past race day owners would be interested in how the horse they owned a few weeks ago was going. They might even back it a few more times creating more turnover. Later on they might even purchase their own share of a racehorse Belinda

Portfolio 728 Report post Posted December 25, 2014 Only a few years ago.....we all paid to go to the track, as well as a few bucks for a racebook, and the crowds were a heap better than today...... So, I would love to know.....does a $20 entrance fee really make some think about going to the races? Surely, if someone loved the game that much, $20 bucks to me seems like a bargain for a day out. I only get to the races about 6 times a year nowadays.....but admission charges have nothing to do with it. Would love to see what others comments are on this.... crustyngrizzly 1,700 Report post Posted December 25, 2014 The Auckland Racing club say that Boxing Day races are an institution on Aucklands social calendar.Well then why would they remove the Derby (also an institution) from the programme.Todays programme is no different to a lot of other days at Ellerslie apart from the stake money and it is pretty obvious that good money doen't always attract top fields.
