Cambridge Horses Out In Force

Cambridge stables will be trading blows on Boxing Day in the three-year-old fillies’ feature.

 

Stephen Marsh has three contenders in the Gr.2 Cambridge Stud Eight Carat Classic at Ellerslie, numbers matched by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman while Roger James will saddle likely favourite Tavy, pictured.

 

Marsh’s team is spearheaded by the unbeaten Sardaaj, who has been untested in two starts to date with wins at Ruakaka and Te Rapa. Since then she enjoyed a day out at the recent Te Aroha trials.

 

“She ran second under a very good hold,” Marsh said. “She was getting a bit full of herself and jumping around and showing off.

 

“The Eight Carat’s a good field and she will still have further improvement in her. The Levin Classic on January 17 is when she’ll be right at the top of her game.”

 

Stablemate Liten Prinsessa lost her unbeaten record at Ellerslie behind the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby favourite Volkstok’n’barrell, but Marsh was far from disappointed.

 

“There wasn’t much pace and she over-raced,” he said. “It was a bit tight for room in the straight and she was a bit shy, but she’s another smart filly.”

The third member of the trio is Thee Auld Floozie, who won twice before she failed at Trentham and Marsh is tipping the Mastercraftsman filly to quickly redeem herself.

 

 â€œShe did a few things wrong, but I expect to see her bounce back,” he said.

Baker and Forsman will line up Charmont, Red Robyn and Saavoya with the former already down to $10 in the market for the Gr.1 Wellfield NZ Oaks following an impressive last-start maiden success.

Significantly, Opie Bosson stays with Charmont after also riding Red Robyn to a recent win.

 

The James-trained Tavy has won her last two starts, including the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial for regular rider Vinnie Colgan.
