Overcheck 190 Report post Posted October 5, 2014 I see Richie McCaw decided not to take two kicks at goal with 25 and 17 minutes to go, either of which would have won the game. The first especially on the 22 metre line and in front was a gift 3 points. With so much time to go you always take the points, but it is amazing how the media who drool over McCaw and Carter can see no wrong and have not mentioned this mistake on Richie's part. tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted October 5, 2014 Fair point.....but it is generally conceded , by players and coaches [especially] that you can't assume that any outcome of a game would end up as simply as 'adding on the 3 extra points'. Usually it's the team behind that gives up 3 in the search for 7 or 5. Once the ball goes back to the halfway for a restart anything can happen. Two footie games over the weekend both saw a drastic change in favour of the team receiving the restarts. Taranaki were behind and were thinking of taking a scrum instead of an easy penalty...the trainer ran on and told them to take the 3. I think from the kick off they scored not one ,but 2 quick tries and the game was won ,easily. Of course the league final saw two quick tries from kickoffs late in game. Earlier the Rabbits had taken an easy 2 points early in game.....against expert commentators advice...another 4 or 6 then may have changed dynamics of game...most of that game there was only a 6 pt margin. In Aussie v Arg test ,Aussie missed an easy penalty close to end ,partly cos of strong laser beam in kickers eyes ,but thats another story !!! "IF" is a big word in life ,especially sport. Overcheck 190 Report post Posted October 6, 2014 Taking the penalty and scoring 3 points and closing the gap would have put pressure on as well, and the ABs would have won the game.
