sunlineboy 131 Report post Posted September 12, 2014 Sorry! It wasn't covered by a TAB, but talks are being had with the bookmakers to provide live betting etc. Racing Victoria has purchased the domain name ‘racing.com’ from a United States firm for an undisclosed fee to further enhance their media business. The change in domain names will encompass almost all of Victoria’s digital thoroughbred racing assets and they will seek wider consuming branding by mid-September. The new venture will allow users of the website to gain access to race fields, form, stewards’ reports, sectional timings and race replays – a service other states don’t provide in full scale. Executive director of strategy and development of Racing Victoria, Andrew Catterall, says that buying this domain name will help attract a wider and possibly more international audience. “We think its a strong message that we are being aspirational in having a non-geographic specific brand. We have things like the spring carnival and we do aspire to have more of an international audience,†he said. It hasn’t come cheaply as Racing Victoria revealed in July that the new media business would cost $15 million, spread between Racing Victoria and the state’s racing clubs over the next five years. There are three other racing clubs involved including Melbourne Racing Club, Moonee Valley Racing Club and Country Racing Victoria, to which all will assign digital rights to the new website. Mr Catterall has had talks with Tabcorp in regards to providing live betting odds and also with TVN in regards to race replays and other video assets. slam dunk 1,317 Report post Posted September 12, 2014 Another ego driven duplication. "The new venture will allow users of the website to gain access to race fields, form, stewards’ reports, sectional timings and race replays – a service other states don’t provide in full scale." Considering I have been providing that for over 15 years I find it amusing. racing.com will probably attract all the motorheads whilst racing.net already does that. Rather a useless exercise therefore. Racing and Sports have spent a lot of effort on statistical racing form therefore Racing Victoria would do best concentrating on getting sponsors and racegoers and encouraging form providers. Just as in NZ they want to build their own empire.

With this contract having ticked over in 2019, does anyone know what the yearly cost is also to the USA? Do these Racing Clubs have an ongoing contract with them? Or do the Clubs now maintain them in the background with upgrades of Software etc? Do others find the Racing Victoria Website a challenge to navigate to find Racefields?
