camici 60 Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Note that Michael Guerin has reappeared on Trackside.I remember his vicious attacks on Brian O'Meara and Warren Stapleton. The TAB should open a book on which next trainer he is going to villify. camici 60 Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Don't know why they don't use Duane Ranger more.Very personable and hard working.Unlike Credit Bet Mick he has no baggage. the shue25
camici 60 Report post Posted September 6, 2014 Mick is far more balanced in his writing/presentation these days.Formerly he seemed to have a personal vendetta against a number of South Island trainers.Nothing personal but just stating facts. camici 60 Report post Posted September 6, 2014 Thanks hsvman. You see Duane regularly on Trackside with his ubiquitous note pad chasing the latest story.I admire his work ethic!
the shue25 145 Report post Posted September 6, 2014 I not sure if it is just me,but i cannot understand a word he says, guerin seems to have a speach impediment .I may be wrong or i may be just getting old,i not sure,
camici 60 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 No shue 25 Mick doesn't have a speech impediment.Even if he did I would not mention it because it would be insensitive. He has a tendency to speak rapidly at times in a style similar to Robin Williams. This may be what you are referring to. frankie 119 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 He's no longer relevant to harness racing as being in the collective pockets of HRNZ, TAB and ATC means he can no longer be objective in any way. So that's him gone as a journalist. As a tipster/form analyst he knows little about NZ harness racing and certainly not in the same class as The Whale. pilli
hsvman 294 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 Whale is boring and picks so many in each race and doesn't give his true opinion. Mick will tell you if he thinks one has no chance and personally I prefer that rather than beating round the bush saying something nice about a horse the sometimes clearly has no show
chelseacol 2,488 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 another vote from me for Mick. Says what he thinks and I reckon always interesting and professional to listen to. Sometimes I shake my head when people criticise people with a bit of personality (Mick, Steve Davis)...... probably the same people who complain about the other boring presenters... camici 60 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 Lestom Mick being a West Coaster is a leaguey.Duane has been known to take modest Counties bowlers apart-in his dreams! However he plays with a straight bat!
camici 60 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 Frankie I am one of the 14 contestants in the Christchurch Casino N.Z. Trotting Cup Survivor Competition. In Round One at Addington on Friday night I blew the Whale away.I am ranked second amongst the 12 survivors.I expect the Whale to blow me away next Friday night.Ha Ha!I have one slight advantage over the other 11 survivors.I am the only one to have trained a winner! So that's him gone as a journalist. As a tipster/form analyst he knows little about NZ harness racing and certainly not in the same class as The Whale. You are kidding, right? Mick ran circles around The Whale each week on The Box Seat when he came back last season. It got to the point where it was almost embarrassing for the big fish because he was getting absolutely schooled and looked out of his depth. Rober123 1 Report post Posted September 8, 2014 How can anyone even try to compare Mick Guerin with Duane Ranger? Michael Guerin is a witty racing guru while the Lone Ranger is 'a do gooder' with extremely limited racing knowledge and a face and dress sense that is best suited to radio. Duane is passionate I'll give him that much but I think he is perfectly suited in his current position as Mick is in his! tasman man 11

Swede 67 Report post Posted September 8, 2014 Don't think harness racing folk fully appreciate what Mick does for the game. Coverage in the NZ Herald, for example, still exists because of him. Take him out of Auckland and watch the profile slide. hsvman
camici 60 Report post Posted September 9, 2014 Swede ditto for Mike Dillon on the gallops side.My favourite Mick anecdote is about a mare called Pullover Brown.Mick was the Trackside presenter at Alexander Park and was hailing her as the second best mare in New Zealand after Mainland Banner. The more he enthused about her the lower her price fell. She started about $1.50.I think she finished 9/12. JackSprat 947 Report post Posted September 9, 2014 I've always thought of Mick as being much better at reporting the "news and gossip" side of racing, than as a tipster. His stories of what going on behind the scenes are usually pretty interesting, but if you're relying on his selections to back a winner, you'll struggle to make a quid! camici 60 Report post Posted September 10, 2014 Thanks Chelseacol! For the record I am one of the 12 survivors in the Christchurch Casino Survivor N.Z. Trotting Cup Challenge. In the first round at Addington last Friday night I finished2/14.Will probably bomb out this Friday though.Ha Ha! If I am one of the 10survivors I am going to put my money where my mouth is and get Duane Ranger to do my selections on his home patch at Alexandra Park.
