CEO - NZRB

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen where this current vacancy, for a new CEO to replace Chris Bayliss, has been advertised, or who the Recruitment agency is?

We had a look online & couldn't find anything for some unknown reason.

Is it been advertised in NZ?

Or offshore?

Apparently GP might be in the running - according to his CV he was once the largest (turnover I presume ;) ) book maker in NSW.  Comfortable with frequent overseas travel.  Allegedly the architect of the objective to increase export earnings by a zillion %.  Knows the front end from the back end of over 90 horses.

Maybe the NZRB read this forum that this role is finally advertised a couple of days after we raised our observations.

Lets hope Jackson, Stone & Partners do to so they know who not to take onboard....

We suggest they use the top right search box on here & enter the persons name to help form an opinion based on information provided by those at the coalface of the industry, if it is someone that has worked here before.

We trust they will do thorough research via Google of any prospective hopefuls that may apply from overseas, including that of Google of the country they may be currently based in,e.g. Google Ireland, Australia, UK, Timbuktu so we don't get landed with another dud.

Should they receive a ' glowing ' CV bear in mind the person concerned may be currently employed by someone keen to dispose of them to avoid employment dispute hassles.

It's a known tactic within some circles to rid incompetent Executives.

Advertisement for CEO in The Press this morning....through Jackson Stone and Partners.

Just out of curiosity ...why must the succesful applicant be an ex banker???....

Why not an  local accountant, buisnessman or any other hardworking manager

with a racing background?

NZRB or whoever is responsible for hiring / firing or contracts or in the know....answer please

I don't think the advert is calling for a banker.

However the advert is very poorly worded and one wonders what do these consultant type businesses bring to the table.

The reference to "owners" is vague with no explanation who the "owners" are. Is it the clubs, government, or racehorse or breeding owners. Perhaps owners will be shareholders if Key and his crew try to privitise the TAB.

Before CEO remuneration is set there should be consultation within the industry.

A veiled reference to the previous CEO Porky, who was the best thing since sliced bread we were told.

They have a penchant for employing people like this...some still there, others have gone.

Are Jackson Stone & partners, or any of those now working at them, the same recruitment firm that was used to search for the previous CEO's?

Or was it a completely different firm & agents?

The ad for a new Chief Executive was also in the Herald last Saturday.

We had to smile as below the ad was a Herald classified advertising the classifieds section for a Penthouse apartment to rent, central Takapuna, keyed lift & intercom $400 pw... ;)

"Like any well-kept goldfish bowl, NZ's Racing industry fish bowl needs clear water."

It also needs occupants that are constantly looking to do things differently and better, rather than swimming in the same old circles.

Water quality and nutrient management are of vital importance to keep  Racing (fish) alive."

Here's a good site that Racing Industry careers should be advertised.

Sportspeople

http://www.sportspeople.co.nz/

They currently have an ad for a CEO of Equestrian Sports which appears tio be very professionally and clearlyy worded.

These little things all make a big difference to prospective applicants and how an industry is perceived by the public.

Maybe they have someone that has applied for this role that would be suitable for the CEO role at NZRB

PETERS champing at the bit for re-election

by Michael Fallows

Turns out you need to be careful with Winston Peters, even if you're telling him he may just have earned your vote.

That's what one questioner found after he began probing the old campaigner, and former racing minister, during his election meeting in Invercargill on Sunday.

So what's your latest policy on helping the racing industry, the guy asked.

"Well if you read the National Party's policy it would have taken you one blink," Peters began. "Go online, you'll see a 10-point plan from New Zealand First to save the racing industry - for the second time."

Have you got time to briefly give us a rundown, the questioner asked, meekly.

"Well yes, but you know . . . let me see . . . the first thing we're going to do is, we're going to restore the health of the interest of the racehorse owner," Peters said. "Because without the racehorse owner, racing will die.

"Now it is just too expensive, too little reward, and horses running around for five and four thousand [dollars] is a joke. So we're going to introduce a second-tier marquee type race where there will be no less than $15,000 earnings for the horses in all of these races. Everything else is talk."

Peters then headed for familiar territory - calling for inquiry. An investigation of the New Zealand Racing Board's operation was on the cards "and in particular we want to find out where did the last [chief executive] go to and why did he go?"

This led Peters to remind all and sundry of his tenure as racing minister. "I gave you things I never promised, didn't I?"

NZ First would revive million-dollar races, "which I know down here is not so popular but at the end of the day if we want to image [sic] our racing worldwide and recover our reputation for being a great racing nation in terms of breeding and money, that is the best PR. And it only costs $5 million to do that."

Come to think of it, he recalled guys from Gore "giving me a wind-up and saying why aren't we getting it down in Gore. And I said none of you damned guys in Gore voted for me in the first place and I didn't promise it! So how ungrateful can you be?"

Peters said he would like to be racing minister again, after countless useless ministers.

"You know they are - tell me the last three!"

"None of us knows" the questioner replied, adding "they're insignificant people."But he wasn't finished. What about offshore betting?

"Yeah," Peters said. "We have serious intentions to use what powers we have got to get our share of the action . . . I don't see why someone should be clipping the ticket while we pay all the costs."

Peters said racing gave him a chance to demonstrate his economic policies in one industry; to make an investment that would provide a huge return to the country. And it had worked, he said.

Racing should be doing three times as well in exporting. We should be getting ready for the racing industry exploding in China's eastern seaboard.

"But we're not. We're down now to 4000 mares - and that"s a disgrace - from 7500. We could do far, far better as an added value industry."

And another thing: "I'm not going to see the casinos getting all the profit in this country when a far better industry far more rewarding for jobs, work and rural employment should be helped."

The questioner began another line, but Peters interrupted him. This wasn't going to turn into a racing meeting, he said.

"I had a racing meeting up there in Rangiora and you guys never turned up! I promised to go all the way to see you fellas and you never turned up!"

That's when the questioner suggested that on the basis of what he was hearing, he might just be willing to change the way he was voting.

Whereupon Peters fair erupted in mock - was it? - outrage.

"After all I did for racing between 2005 and 2008 and you never voted for me? God! No, no mate . . . crikey dick!"

By now in full oratorical eruption, he began railing against types who "give us a microlight and want us to fly to the moon!"

With his audience now hooting he instructed: "Tell those racing boys . . tell them if they don't . . . give us the vote . . . well that will be a bad, bad Sunday for them. Next question please!"

We heard a lady phone Des C yesterday & apparently there was some report that Glenda Hughes mentioned there has been no CEO appointed yet as they want someone who is Digitally orientated.

Would someone be able to elaborate?

Thanks
