Yankiwi and a few others posted some of their bets so I thought I'd post my totals since May 2013.  

I'm not a 'big' punter so I'm not going to make thousands a week!  I do have slightly more winning days than losing days though my winning days are bigger thankfully!

 

OVERALL PROFIT: $2799(Current tracks +$2774)

I won't use all bet types forever but I want to get bigger sample sizes so I can find out what works, what doesn't.  I have stopped taking pick 6 because despite it being a lot of fun the results were disastrous.

If you've been thinking about recording your bets I recommend it.  Only takes a few minutes a day and like I've said in the past it's really interesting.  

Interesting figures Dusty. It is a very good way to help you sort out what does work & doesn't work for you. If I had taken the time to record it all, I probably would have found out quicker what did and didn't work for me.

 

I'd suggest you do have a go at Forbury. I think it's a pretty easy track to sort out. You just need to remember a couple of important things about it, of coarse, in my opinion.

 

1) Generally a dog either likes it or not.

2) A first look at the track dog generally doesn't do very well, even if their form from other tracks looks the goods. Naturally, there are exceptions to this.

I might have another go at Otago some time as I did like it but quite enjoy Tuesdays off!  Yep, recording has helped me out of sight and would help anyone no matter how little or much they spend.  It wasn't my idea, infact I was against the idea at first!

It's not so much the track which determines my success; it's the amount of knowledge I have going in.

If I've had time to follow the races over a few weeks (at a minimum) and have recorded what I've seen, I will do well.

If I go on a whim or on something I've seen months ago in a dog, such as was beginning well, I'll do badly.

You need to follow the form. I had time to watch every race at Addington for a month and at last Addington meeting, made a killing. Similarly going well tonight.

Waikato has been good to me in the past but only because I put in the study of every race.

I don't bet on maidens unless I've seen something special. I'm now very reluctant to bet on a race with fresh up dogs as I just don't have the information I need to put down the $.

Those two races was a gut feeling which I tend to use alot and get bored with study to my detriment.

Found when I tend to study it goes to custard for me as over look small things.

My bad habit is punting Monday and Tuesday nights on ozz dogs as its wall to wall betting which I love as there is crap all on tv to watch. Had some cracker nights but all went pear shape for awhile now. No studying just fave, three for second and field field in first four or I spot breeding I really like with litter mates in N.Z.

Seems my betting mojo left me a long time ago and fell into the trap that I thought it would come right.

Limit $20 a week now for sports leauge mulits and Fri night % trebles at nz dogs as I work till 10pm so gives me something to watch while at the counter.

You sound like my old man who I've learnt a lot from.  Funnily enough even though I'm a punter I'm a frugal person which I think helps with my punting.  I have many losing days like any punter but I don't get hammered often(save that for the pub) and I very rarely have those 'regret' bets you were talking about.  

Watching a lot of races, knowledge and discipline all help as you say.  Recording bets(like above), experimenting with bet types and not rushing with race study are also good.  Most is common sense but few have the patience.

Thanks for the insight dusty. Hard to know what to take from it except that you're a bloody good punter and it seems you should ditch quinellas. Maybe with quinellas you are too adventurous in your selections (because they used to be your best option you've gotten cocky?).

I don't record my bets but I do have a black book. I like this idea tho so I will have a go and let you know how I go. Could be scary to be fair!

No worries.  Yeah, I'm not sure what happened with quinellas, even dad said to me yesterday, 'Didn't they used to be the best?'.  

Perhaps I've altered the technique somehow over time without noticing.  

Like I said though the sample sizes aren't great so I'll persist with them for now.  I'm not convinced with quaddies or an early favourite, place 6.  I've made a bit but I seem to have a lot of losses and the odd decent win to keep me in the profit but I want to be more in the profit for each bet type to warrant putting the time in.  Because I'm sick I put a lot of time into it, sometimes it's physically and mentally draining.  

I wouldn't swap it for anything though, looking forward to hearing your news.  Even try it for a week and see how you like it.  Was damn scary when I first started especially seeing how much I donated to pick 6 haha.

 

When you record it's good to keep separate sections for Overall, Bet Types and Tracks so you can sort things easily and get more info.

The fixed odds bet at the bottom was Johnny Ritza.  He ran faster than the Auckland Cup field last start when close 2nd to Bublin Gold yet pays $7.50ff in a c4 lineup???  Apologies if it's not clear, just copied and pasted.

Yeah, Lochinvar Brando hot fave then 3 ruffies, shows how many people take the faves.  

Nearly anchored Real Clever but since I'd anchored him in treble/quad I thought I better not because if he'd got rolled I'd jump off a cliff.

Lucky I didn't, did pay incredibly well with the 3 faves being the first 3 home.

some nice results, had a laugh today I thought I would share, was at the baseball at Sydney today and there was a TAb their so half way through the game went for a beer and walk into the tab and seen race 8 manukau ready to jump in 3 mins went up with six bucks and asked for 1 3 7 boxed didn't check but he gave me 6 bucks straight 1 3 7 paid just over $152 x 6 lol that's the 1st baseball game I've been to and went home with a little bag full....

some nice results, had a laugh today I thought I would share, was at the baseball at Sydney today and there was a TAb their so half way through the game went for a beer and walk into the tab and seen race 8 manukau ready to jump in 3 mins went up with six bucks and asked for 1 3 7 boxed didn't check but he gave me 6 bucks straight 1 3 7 paid just over $152 x 6 lol that's the 1st baseball game I've been to and went home with a little bag full....
