Summer Super Threes Comp

Recommended Posts

A bit like the Sevens is for Rugby the Threes gives Super Comp contestants to stretch their legs and flex their punting muscles before the serious stuff starts in the Autumn.

This version is a little different in that each team will consist of just 3 Players. The teams may not or do not have to bear any similarity to the usual Super franchise line-ups. When the Autumn contest kicks off we can return to our former squads. Teams will be assembled on a strictly first-in, first-placed basis. Rules will be identical to previous Super Comps with the exception of points scoring. There will be an initial Round Robin Phase of 4 Rounds and then a 4 Round Finals Series with the top 4 teams going into a Grand Final knockout phase over two weeks.

If we can get the teams filled promptly then we may be underway this week. If not then next week.

Teams are:

Sharks

Crusaders
Hurricanes
Bush Pigs

Blues
Ferdies
Highlanders
Stags
Magpies
Kauri Kats
Chiefs

Turbos

THE RULES

1. Players. Each team will consist of 3 players. If you can't play on a given week you may nominate a sub from outside the comp or have a team mate post for you although in the latter instance their selections on behalf of the missing player must vary from their own to some degree.

2. Draw. The twelve sides will be split into two leagues. The draw within each league will match each team against two other teams every week until all teams have played each other twice in the Round Robin part of the comp. This will only take 4 Rounds. At the conclusion of the Round Robin section the teams will be split into two leagues - Premier (for the top 3 qualifiers) and Presidents (for the rest). A further Round Robin format will then ensue for both leagues. At the conclusion of the 2nd Round Robin sequence the Finals (lasting two weeks) will begin. In the first week 1st will play 4th and 2nd will play 3rd for a berth in the Grand Final which will take place the following week.

3. Selections. Competitors are required to select two runners per race for the 10 nominated races (5 in NZ and 5 in Aust), with up to two subs also able to be posted (optional). All selections should be posted at the same time although I may make allowances if this is not possible due to late arrival for posting. Posting the same numbers for each race is not permitted. I don't think your team mates would want you to do that anyway.

4. Scratching Rule. You may post replacements for any scratching either with your original selection post or up until the start of the first race. Late scratchings will see your selection transferred to the TAB sub or if the TAB sub is your other selection then to the 2nd favourite by TAB win odds. If more than one horse meets the latter criteria then the replacement will be the horse with the higher number.

5. Investments. Each selection will be regarded as an imaginary $10 win bet while if both selections start, a $2 quinella combining the two selections will also be credited to the competitor. So that's a $22 investment per race per competitor if two tips are submitted.

6. Best Bet. Each selector may choose one race in each country as a "best bet" selection. All $$$ earned from these races will be doubled. In the event of scratchings the same best bet (BB) will apply. There will be no transference to a subsequent race.

7. H-T-H. The draw will pit individual players from the three teams drawn to play each other, against each other in head-to-head competition. The player with the most $$$ at the conclusion of the round is the winner for his team.

8. Countback. If a head-to-head contest is a tie on $$$ earned then a countback will determine the winner by award victory to the player who uniquely selected the highest placed horse in the final event. In other words if you both selected the same horse that cancels itself out. It would be the two selections which are different which will determine the tie-breaker. If the selections are the same for the final event then the same parameter will apply to the penultimate race and so on.

9. Points. Teams will be awarded points as follows:

1 point awarded to each team for each member who wins their head-to-head

3-0-0 team win - 3 additional points for winning side

2-1-0 team win - 2 additional points for winning side, 1 point for the Runner-up team

1-1-1 result - 1 additional point to team with the highest aggregate

Bonus points
Team profit bonus - 1 point
Losing team with higher aggregate than the winning team (if there is one) - 1 point

So a well performed side which still loses may earn as many as 3 points .

10. Joker. No Joker this time. Round Robin phases are too short.

11. Posting. Please post your selections by number (names are optional and unnecessary).

13. Closing Time. There is no closing time but selections are only valid if posted at least one minute before the starting time of the first or any race.

Comp is scheduled to start on Sat Jan 11 (this Saturday) if teams can be filled in time.

Please post your entry on here clearly stating your team preference - e.g
1. Hurricanes
2. Sharks

If you don't state a team preference you may miss out on being in a team. Teams will be filled on a first come basis.

If any of you wish to enter AS A TEAM then I am happy to accept an alternative name and drop out some unfilled team, reassigning nominees.

NEWCOMERS ARE VERY WELCOME ! Basically all you have to be able to do is tip two selections per race for 10 specified races each Saturday.

Any QUESTIONS, please ask.
