Hastings Track Update - 30 September

Recommended Posts

Dear all

Track update as at 30 September.

Track

Current reading - Good 3

We are expecting some rain late today, according to the latest forecast.

All things being equal - and little rain arriving - we will be irrigating tommorrow and making assessments from there. We will be striving to deliver a track that is a Good 3 at the commencement of racing.

Weather - forecast (source www.accuweather.com)

Monday - rain and drizzle, southeast winds high of 16.

Tuesday - Sunny 19 degree high.

Wednesday - Sunny 22 degree high.

Thursday - Sunny 22 degree high.

Friday - Sunny 22 degree high.

Saturday - Cloudy 19 degree high.

As always Richard Fenwick is available on - 027 235-8556

Stalls on raceday

99 stalls are available on raceday to horses entered.

We expect there to be higher entries than this on raceday and would greatly appreciate all Trainers and connections assisting us ensure the safety of all particpants.

To enable this we would respectfully ask that travelling companinions (equine) be minimised and those horses that have raced are not left occupying stalls.

There will be a shuttle service provided by Majestic Horsefloats (Colwyn Hercock) from the racecourse to the Wall Road accomodation block after races through the day.

We will advise once we see the number of horses nominated as to the timing of this service.

The longer term solve for this is obviously building more stalls, capital and space issues must be resolved for this to happen.

Thanks

Jason

I would think like so many courses in NZ - when the course was opened, a full days card was 8 races not the 10 or even more sometimes of today.    Thus 100 stalls etc. would have sufficed.     I may be wrong but this number of stalls seems to be fairly standard around the country tracks.

If you get 3 or 4 days there over 20 deg you won't have any problem with a firm/good track, particularly if any wind Jason.

That will change things and there might be a few form reversals after what we've had so far..

Should be a great day. All the best with it.

I can remember going to Hastings on Premier days with horses when there were empty tie ups everywhere. Then HB Racing sold the land the tie ups were on and I suspect somebody miscalculated the number of tie ups needed. This was about 15 years ago when the powers to be were telling us that unless you run 10 races in a day you couldn't run a viable meeting. With this being the thinking of the day 99 stalls were never going to be enough.

Jason, there is no getting away from the fact that HB Racing has the most inadequate pre race facilities for horses in the Central Districts. Trainers are constantly being hammered about health and saftey issues. Yet as trainers we take our horses and staff to your Premier Meetings and put both in to an over crowded and dangerous enviroment.

It is time HB Racing stood up and accepted responsibilty for the issues and did something about it.
