hedley 1,900 Report post Posted November 28, 2013 Artist Completes World’s Largest Equine Sculptures Glasgow, Scotland-based artist Andy Scott recently completed the two largest equine sculptures in the world, just eight years after he first sketched out the plans for them. The two 30-meter (98-foot) sculptures sit on either side of a specially-constructed basin on the banks of the Forth & Clyde canal in Falkirk, Scotland. A total of 495 separate pieces came together in 100 individual deliveries to form each horse head. Scott’s vision for the pieces was a combination of the draft horses that were central to the region’s industrial heritage, and the water horses of Scottish myth called kelpies. The steel horse heads, titled The Kelpies, are expected to boost tourism to the area. The project was funded by Big Lottery Fund, Falkirk Council and Scottish Canals.
