A couple of ideas

Recommended Posts

Was in the airport late last week and early this week, how boring is it sitting in there waiting for a flight. I just wonder if there could be an opportunity to put a small area with trackside TV and self service terminal in them, lots of people sitting around looking for something to do it could just pass a bit of time for people as well as help put a of money through the TAB.

The other thing is, i wonder if there could be some sort of way of topping up TAB accounts the same way as people top up a pre paid phone at the dairy, servo, supermarkets etc. I just take today as an example,i finished early before any TABS were open and were not coming into town again, could easily use the online deposit but there are people who are reluctant to do so because it could become dangerous for them once they start doing so. It also might temp people who have an account but don't often use it to chuck a few dollars in since it is so easy.

That's my thoughts for the day.

Good thoughts Aaron,

The airport one is interesting - just don't think we have the product to appeal. By perception a lot of non racing folk think racing is as straight as a corkscew. The TAB account top up is where it is headed, but it is the old story, if we do not use TAB agents we loose them - it is either use them or lose them -  so dangers exist with your thought on this topioc.

Good thoughts but.

Very well said. You ring the tab to ask them the opening hours of local outlets(in auckland) and they have no clue.To punt on board an 8 hour flight to indo would be excellent, between drinking bintangs and duty free i could turn over plenty.

Aaron Bidlke, im a punter/gambler happy to admit it. You have a problem, you are the sort of prick who is pushing for a cashless society which i hate.Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you call the owners of TABs or Lotto outlets 'pricks' when you go have a bet? I think that was a bit unfair to start calling me names because of a couple of ideas i had.

I agree. Mooseman...stop being a retard. Obviously you had your post after having a few too many. Behave. Good ideas are too few and too far between.

Personally I think that Mooseman deserves a Red Card or at least a Yellow one.

This site has lost a number of regular posters for one reason or another and it is replies like Mooseman's that is driving them away.

Aaron, they were a couple of good thoughts from you, well worth discussing.

Keep up the good work, train some more winners and win on the punt.

The airport tab machine should be made to accept coins, theyre no good taking overseas so a good way to turn over a few extra $ .moose may have had a couple to many and read a little more into it lakey than you were conveying

Everyone (who drinks)has their achilles heel and light beer looks to bring out the worst in this moose,id suggest a few quiet spirits with your sweet and sour pork.coruba over ice, then pour the coke preferably from the small glass bottles 80mm above the vessel.tasty.

Moosman, all's well. Actually I have never had a better run with the winners. Can't wait for Trentham were we will once again see 'some beauties'.

Remember those three 'outstanding runs' on the first day last year?

I will do a Des Coppins!

Anyone, name three that I am thinking of?

You've got them. Sorry no prizes like a trip to the Melbourne Cup!

Seriously though, I will never forget the explosive finish of Ocean Park and his fantastic action five or six lengths clear of the opposition (Nashville?) in the Wellington Stakes.

in relation to tab accounts, one feature which i feel needs to be added ASAP is being able to withdraw from your account directly back into your nominated bank acc, as is done with online casinos etc...  although i guess the TAB do this intentionally so its far easier to reinvest on the next race!

I've also noticed that the TAB outlets very rarely are able to pay out collects of $1,000 or more in cash.  I can understand the logic behind TABs not holding large amounts of cash for safety reasons, but it therefore becomes even more important to be able to transfer funds from your TAB account direct to your bank.

Having to take a cheque, which then requires a visit to the bank (two banks if your personal bank accounts aren't with ANZ / National) is pretty average in this day and age.

Sorry about the quotes but they've had numerous complaints yet still claim it's 'fixed'....

I agree with you Fernlea, Scott. I had quite a few occasions over the Xmas period with returns from as low as $500 unable to be paid to me in full by a proper TAB. I'd understand if it was a pub tab but it wasn't.... 3 different occasions ranging from $500 to $1500 unable to be paid to me. I just got offered vouchers which are poison, one of them ended up going on Sizzling which was one of the biggest certaintys beat I've seen.

You never see them unable to pay out the pokies.... You should definitely be able to deposit back into your bank account IMO. Guess the TAB just want us to reinvest tho.... Don't care about the few good customers remaining with them.

Exactly ReillyM.  I can't remember ever being able to place a bet at the TAB without having the moolah there and then.

It's a punters mentality to keep on punting, especially if you're riding a winning streak, and the TAB certainly don't make it easy for you to cash out when you're happy with the money you've made.

One day in Wellington I went to three separate TABs trying to get a collect of approx $3,000 paid out.  The first two (Courtenay Place, and Brandon St) didn't have enough cash to pay me, nor did they apparently have any staff working with the authority to sign cheques.  In the end I went to the Newtown TAB where it was all sorted very quickly, but I was still shocked by how ill-prepared the TAB were to pay out.

haha so true reilly! even more dangerous for me is money sitting in the account tho, not even a piece of paper, just numbers on a screen which seem to disappear VERY quickly sometimes

another thing id like to see is being able to access and bet through your account on the self service terminals, always such a hassle filling out the withdrawl forms and everything just to stick it straight back in the machine!

The self-service machines in Australia (well, Melbourne and Sydney at least) can do this.

You have to be careful though - I scanned an $80 winning ticket on the machine and next thing I know it's gone into someone else's TAB account (he hadn't closed his account on the screen).

Next thing to address on the NZ self-service terminals is the note-feeders - terrible!

Having gone through anger and denial have now accepted this. Nowadays (especially with betting-terminals) I never expect more than a couple of hundred there and then. Save up, call ahead and make time to enjoy the walk to the bank I say.

Agree that the online facilities are behind the times for withdrawals. The My Tab area could retain your bank account details and allow quick withdrawals. Ethically, withdrawals should be as easy as deposits?

Personally, I think that it's about time that we started a crusade to get the TAB to bring in the feature of being able to reverse payments back into the same Credit Card Account that the money came out of!

It's new year so lets bombard them into action.

One thing I will say about my local TAB, is that I do always seem to fluke when the signatory lady is on duty but it still does require a trip TAB, then to the bank and then a internet or phone banking transaction by myself just to clear the debt on my credit card!

All in all a lot more effort than should be necessary.

Oh well them's the breaks. Maybe I should be happy that I am taking out more than I am putting in, at least lately.

Roll on Trentham.

PS. Great to see that the 'quote' feature is working as it should at least with my PC. I will try my iPhone later with hopefully the same result. Thanks again for making it happen.

Further to my comments above, I did contact Chris Bayliss, CEO NZ Racing Board, regarding the inability to reverse transfer money from a TAB Account back to a Credit Card or Bank Account.

Chris immediately responded with the following:

"I truely understand your frustration. Equally, as an ex banker, I understand the complexity of New Zealand payment systems.

The short answer is there should be nothing stopping us executing what looks like a simple and very reasonable request. Unfortunately there is also a much longer answer !!

All I can promise is that payment solutions is a number one priority for me - and there are many other fixes / enhancements to the one you highlight.

Pleases give me a few months and I hope to make some positive changes."

Then the very next day I received another email saying:

"Further to my email yesterday, I have overnight looked into essentially a manual process, where customers can instruct the NZ Racing Board via the website, to make a payment to a nominated Bank Account or Credit Card.

Claire Meulenbroeks [Ph04 576 6904] can be contacted to assist you in transferreing funds from your NZ Racing Board Account to a nominated Banc Account or Credit Card on receipt of an email instruction containing your signature. Alternatively you could fax these deatails throught to her.

I hope this provides some short term assistance and thanks again for taking the time to provide feedback".

After thanking Chris for his positive responsives I asked him if it was OK to quote him on the subject but I did tell him that I had no intention of mentioning his offer of the manual service to anyone else, as I didnt want to create a hornets nest for him.

Here is his immediate response:

"I am very happy for you to quote me and also regarding the manual process I am happy for you to shout about that also - the customer always comes first and if it makes life easier then customers should use it and I'll worry about the back end processes - in fact it is now on our wesite where the detail is shown  [www.tab.co.nz - under help support or my tab ].

I promise I am looking into proper technolgy fixes also."

Now, if that isnt the most proactive response to come out of the TAB for many a long day I dont know what is!
