Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 4, 2012 OK. Here we go with round 2. The questions are: 1) Who is the horse ? 2) Who is the jockey ? 3) What is the track ? 4) who was the owner ? There may be a prize for this one for the person who gets all 4 answers correct [

Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 4, 2012 Admin is trying to fix the problem now so that the pic will open to a decent size when you click on it. Keep checking. Not Game and B. Marsh but same era

Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 5, 2012 Today's clue: The horse in the pic was the best colt by his sire who stood in NZ and also the NH
Guest moz1047 Report post Posted October 5, 2012 Clicking still doesn't seem to work. I was also going to start new thread and that doesn't seem to work either. Do we need to reregister?
Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 5, 2012 I would hazard a guess that clicking on the pic won't work if you are not registered
Memphis2 1,078 Report post Posted October 5, 2012 is it Gary Phillips and Trentham.
tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted October 5, 2012 I thought it was GPhillips too , but a guess at horse would be MrMink who won big 2 yr old races @ Wellington and Ellerslie. Trained by BDeacon,by Copenhagen ll and usually ridden by LKTinsley. Unsure of owners but sold to USA . The tower is high and close to birdcage ,tho fence doesn't look like Trentham and Clerk looks a bit 'provincial' so could be a track like Wanganui ??? Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 6, 2012 Mark is correct, it is the CD Starter at Trentham Not Mr Mink though Gary but I like the guess Today's clue - The horse was owned by a very notable owner who is currently in his 80s. Memphis2 1,078 Report post Posted October 6, 2012 Noble Heights?
tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted October 6, 2012 Surprised few answers / guesses , cos big star on head should make it apparent. A guess cos of GPhillips @ Trentham and rings on reins would be the trainer is BDeacon of Copper Belt , Egmont Park, Ruling Lad fame etc etc from that era. tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted October 6, 2012 Maybe its light blue and white checks silks ,but the name Nurioopta ,GIvil I think , has just leaked from the memory banks ????
Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 7, 2012 Some good names coming up but not correct. Today's clue- This horse was trained at Matamata and these colours were carried to victory in an Arc de Triomphe
tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted October 7, 2012 Some good names coming up but not correct. Today's clue- This horse was trained at Matamata and these colours were carried to victory in an Arc de Triomphe I think you have stumped us.I suspect it is Robert Sangster who you refer to ,as he purchased a promising colt Paddy Boy [by Blarney Kiss] and won some big races in Aussie as Our Paddy Boy !!! von Smallhaussen 3,226 Report post Posted October 7, 2012 1 - ? 2 - G A Phillips 3 - Trentham 4 - Nelson Bunker Hunt
Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 7, 2012 Vell dun VS ! 3 out of 4 answers correct. Bunker Hunt, who also raced among a host of top horses, the Arc winner Vaguely Noble (sire of Noble Bijou) is the owner whose colours GA Phillips is wearing. Today's clue: This colt's sire won two Derbies and six Guineas events.

Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 No Brian but you are getting a hell of a lot closer. I remember being at New Plymouth when this fella won a Caltex Gold Cup, a race I believe he won for 4 years on the trot. tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 As this horse was owned by NBHunt and trained at Matamata ,one can 'assume' that it was trained by Bill Ford who trained the ill-fated Altitude for NBHunt ???
von Smallhaussen 3,226 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 Maybe not Tasman...... I think Kevin Old had a few for NB H
Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 Getting closer guys - yes Kevin Old was indeed the trainer. Today's clue: The pic was taken after a 2yo race at Trentham which the horse won but later in his career he competed against Battle Heights in an Auckland Cup - versatile buggers in those days weren't they ?
