"It was just going to be too hard to get there," Vasil said of the New Zealand mission, which required a flight to Auckland and a 10-hour float trip to Wellington.

From memory this was one of the main reasons Takeover Target didn't come. I know people get angry about making it easy for the aussies and them taking all our money back but if this race wanted to get a bit of credibility Australasian wide we need to get more of them and the transport issue is the main factor. Next year is the final time it will be $1,000,000 so I suppose it doesn't matter anyway.

Coup Align has to prove he is not just a South Island horse.

Coup Align beat more than handy fields with a heap of top north Island runners in them over the Riccarton carnival.

What top horses from the North Island has he beaten at 1200m and how many of them?

Would be an interesting list....

In fact looking at the noms the only horse he has raced against and beaten is Vonusti at 1000m. Another 200m he would have chewed up and spat out.

The quality of this field is not in the same ball park to what he has been beating. Some on here bragging about backing him at 7's, I wouldn't take 17's!

He will be ridiculously under the odds and next to no chance of winning the race.

Very brave coments indeed, he has beaten the likes of Faalcon, The Chunkster, Santangelo, San Bernandino Al Qurhah etc etc.... all he can do is win my friend, it is not his fault what is left standing behind him. The win in the 100k race was very good and if you think it was not...then more the fool you.

Just check his sectionals, he deserves to be in the race and they will know he was there for sure.

This is of course a huge step up, but the same goes for most of the field. Bet you wish you owned one good enough to compete in a race like this, I do thats for sure.

I am talking about Coup Align performing outside the South Island.

And Zimmo before you get upset, of course I would love to own a horse as good as Coup Align.......however I was saying I find his odds (and those of Wealth Princess and Wall Street) far too short for what they have done.

I'm with you Zimmo - I think Coup Align is freakishly fast. His times running against himself - all opposition to date no help! - have been spectacular. However, my only concern is that he sets it up perfectly for something to slingshot him in the last 50. Can't see him not being in the first 3.

A question for the Wellingtonians....

How much rain has the track had? What is the forecast for the next few days?

What condititions do you think the track will be in?

One will not expect 1.07 or less if the track is really dodgy. Expect the unexpected perhaps? ;)

Sorry folks, forget the last post.

I have just noticed a new thread for the subject of track conditions for the Telegraph.

Centrofold

I'll keep everyone informed what is happening with the weather. If you read the DomPost, you would believe there has been plenty of rain. but as I have pointed out in the previous thread, Trentham has had only 1/3 of the rain Wellington has had.

The forecasts are changing a bit but rain tomorrow is still predicted with frequent showers late on Friday.

I'll let you know what happens in the Wet Track tread.

Top North Island horses? ok....

For the record, I would love to own a horse as good, but $8 against this field is ridiculous.

Totally agree

I think $5 would be more accurate. :)

Also think Wealth Princess is a great trifecta and First 4 filler. I just think she will have to do too much to win if shes slowish away.

Tavistock from the draw should figure in there.

What an awesome race we have!
