I see in this morning's ODT that Yamanin Vital has died.

He was nineteen but has been producing a lot of good stayers lately so bookings were good for this season.

A big loss for the Andertons and South Island racing.

I couldn't find a link online but here's the ODT story.

Yamanin Vital, the successful sire, was put down at White Robe Lodge,North Taieri,on Monday night after an obstruction of his bowel.

"He became uneasy on Sunday and his condition deteriorated. The problem was inoperable" Brian Anderton, the proprietor of White Robe, said.

Yamanin Vital was 19.The son of Sir Tristram-She Might Hula was imported by the stud in 1997 after he had won five races in Japan. He won over 2000m in 1.59.6.

Yamanin Vital sired the Group One winners Cluden Creek (2004 Wellington Cup) and Cut The Cake (2003 NZ Derby).Others included Trebla (NZ Cup and Canterbury Gold Cup),Requisite (Eclipse Stakes at Moonee Valley),Rosa Marada (Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford),Hypnotize (dual Great Northern Steeplechase)and the Grand National Hurdle winners Counter Punch and Yourtheman.

Yamanin Vital Sad Loss To NZ Breeding Industry

The death on Monday night, October 12, of the successful stallion Yamanin Vital was a severe blow, not only to White Robe Lodge, but also the NZ breeding industry.

An inoperable obstruction of the bowel proved to be fatal for the 19 year-old son of Sir Tristram. He won five races in Japan, including a victory in the very good time of 1.59.6 for 2000 metres.

At stud he was a top quality sire of stayers leaving a NZ Derby winner in Cut The Cake, a Wellington Cup winner Cluden Creek and a NZ Cup winner in Trebla. He was also an outstanding sire of jumpers, with his progeny including Hypnotize, Yourtheman, Counter Punch and Yamanaura.

His stock have sold increasingly well in recent years, both at Karaka and at the South Island Sale, where he has latterly dominated stallion averages. As he has a number of promising young stock , some impressive yearlings and foals arriving every day at present, his profound influence will be felt for some time yet.
