Black Sardine (aus)

Recommended Posts

"maybe because after giving BC a pretty soft run, they were wanting to pick up some place money for their owners and make sure they actually get a decent race out of it for their preparations?"

I don't think the result would have been any different. Seeing a long distance horse getting hit over a sprint distance is disgusting in my opinion.

No negativity here Irish just honesty... Do you honestly believe you witnessed a 'race'? That was a disg'race ... May as well of had an exhibition gallop with this great mare. All the riders in that race were pandering to the sardines formline and it didn't do the image of racing anygood. If they had super imposed a 1400 maiden from gawler over it the sardine would of run last.Fair crack of the whip this super sardine has created a circus

G'day Gruff. I don't think 'race' is the operative word in this case.

People went to see, and enjoy, the spectacle that is BC.

Bit like the Romans going to see Christians being fed to the lions - with not such a happy ending.

I don't, for an instant, believe the other jockeys were 'pandering' to her.

After all, they have trainers and owners to who they have to answer.

If they were 'pandering' we then come to 'not running on the horse's merits' and that, my love, is a whole new ball game involving cheating and I don't believe that is what you are suggesting.

She hasn't created a 'circus'.

We Aussies have passion in spades for horse racing and take our heroes/heroines to our heart.

Witness to that is the Living Legends Horse Park in Melbourne.

Nothing to match it in NZ so I rest my case.

I read there were people lined up outside Caulfield racecourse at 8 am this morning in order to get a good vantage point.

Is that a circus Gruff or passion??? :)

Whichever it is there should be more of it.

funniest post ever

you waffle on endlessly about living legends

what about the dead slow ones?

don't they matter?

where do the slow ones end up Irish ?

owners and trainers seem to have a much greater love for the fast ones, just like you

Pollyannaism at its best..

Why do you find the need to create this circus around BC Pogo, when there is no need to do it.. you have a go at anyone who dares to actually like the horse.. why?

It seems that folk posting on this forum are comparing her to other great mares, she's not doing that, you all are, she's just running her races, and winning every one.

She's not creating this, and her trainer is running her in races, not maidens, races that she qualifies for and she's winning them.

People in Australia love her and want to see her, I don't blame them, she's lovely to watch, a beautiful horse and she's winning her races easily, they are a romp..

Now I'm not claiming she's a worldbeater, I'm not saying that she's going to be a "champ" .. but she's won all of her races, and they love her in Australia.. so what's wrong with just letting them, and if anyone else wants to admire her let them.. they are not belittling any horse bred in NZ or any of our great racehorses.. they are merely enjoying a horse that really is pretty nice and why you find her so threatening to your world I don't know.

I would be genuinely interested in pogos thoughts about how you bring BC undone. I've noticed there have been races with two or three horses trained by one trainer, but there seems to be no plan to beat her, no attempt at surreptitious team riding, taking her on, slowing it down, keeping her wide - anything!

Anyone got any idea how the current Australasian crop could create the conditions to beat her?

havnt had time to read all the posts but after reading the first dozen or so I realise there are a few wankers out there still. This is the best horse seen anywhere near where we live in a long time if not ever.I heard mention today that she is over 600kg and that is pretty rare in a thoroughbred mare in fact ive never heard of one although im sure someone will pohoo that.Im picking that there will be a few eating humble pie after she goes overseas and plays with them there.I wont be because the only way she will be beaten is there will have to be something wrong with her so I will have an excuse

Negativite comments are very very very unfortunately part of some people's characters and the equine industry has more than their fair share.

The last handful of posts are how the majority of people feel about Black Caviar. :)

Truly how can you not rate this great mare amongst the best! If my horses I've been involved with travelled this easily in their trackwork gallops I'd be over the moon - let alone destroying Group 1 fields!

If the people who make these negative comments stand by their judgement they must think even less or equal of Frankel's performances. He races in very similar types of fields, with pacemakers thrown into the fray, but we sit back and admire his performances.

These are THE 2 highest rated horses in the world, we are fortunate to see 2 such outstanding horses going around at the same time.

Wouldn't we all love our horses to be able to sit outside the leader or in a handy position and just explode away as and when they wanted too. It sure causes less stress than horses needing luck in the running.

Then you read other comments why don't they put her in a mile race or cox plate or....when Dan Carter got injured during the World Cup was there ever any thought to playing Richie McCaw at first five? NO! As a champion rugby player as he is, doesn't mean you play him out of position and slot him in at first five because he is your best player!

Sit back, watch and enjoy long will the memories last! She is a "machine" :)

Can I answer this one. Some people believe that because her Dam is by Desert Sun there is no reason why Black Caviar would not run a good mile or even win the Cox Plate. That's confidence speaking by those people.

What is the alternative? Watching her beat long distance runners over a sprint distance (like yesterday) purely to maintain a winning record. That is not competition to in the true sense of the word to racing purists.

How many times to do people have to say they are not knocking Black Caviar as such?

Sorry... corrected. (I know I should have re-read it first before I hit the submit reply button)

And wasn't she a stunner, head on chest just waiting, crept up on the outside, Luke Nolen motionless, Midas Touch jockey trying to invoke flight with his arms, and BC cantered on by...we are privileged to have seen her.

Thank you - mostly ladies I note having posted recently in this thread - for supporting a happy spectacle, moments from a horse (supported well by Mr Moodys acknowledgements to his staff yesterday) that - clearly - make most other people happy as well - judging by the turnout @ Caulfield yesterday and the short TAB prices as well.

I also enjoy the fact that most of you are prepared to identify yourselves on Race Cafe, showing your name and not hiding behind a nom de plume.

You cannot ask a horse to do more than win - BC achieves that and more.

funniest post ever

i didn't create a circus, i noted an article among others that state Black Sardine (aus) has become boring ....

AND guess what it is, the sad part is that to protect an unbeaten record we now have Pollyannas wetting themselves over a CHAMPION who is beating off half fit stayers in the most UNCOMPETITIVE race ( CF ORR ) ever seen on a metropolitan race course.

Yesterday was a BOAT RACE, a ONE GOER'S PARADISE...

If you are such a total MUPPET that you couldn't see what was unfolding ( refer Irish (group one Pollyanna) Jan Sanders et al ) then sorry for you....

BUT when Black Sardine (aus) flogged Hay List at Randwick , different story....

Black Sardine (aus) = CHAMPION

Black Sardine yesterday BORING as bat droppings.

As i stated i would much prefer to have owned and experienced Rough Habit (nz) than Black Sardine(aus)

Yesterday's "race" made an absolute mockery of racing.

We (the et al's) are pleased to see a horse do well - a happy horse. (Very lucky horse!)

You are trying to bring her down for what ever reason.

Leave her alone.

Buy yourself a horse who can do the same and see how you feel about people who deride the horse.

Her connections are lucky they know this does not happen often in ownership - a fast, sensible, relaxed horse.

You are not comparing apples with apples.....this is NOW.

Pogo - we've touched on this on other threads; but I say again. Where is her genuine opposition then??? Yesterday we had a $250,000 1400m sprint with a number of big sprint races approaching in the coming weeks. Where were the specialist sprinters???

I'll tell you Pogo - they were hiding safely in their boxes to protect THEIR reputations!! If there was a sprinter anywhere in Australia who could 'hold a candle' to BC they would have no hesitation in lining up against her - but there simply isn't!

The fact of the matter is this Pogo: Black Caviar has made a 'mockery' of every race she has ever been in. Has she ever won with anything less than ridiculous ease? No. She is simply SO VASTLY superior to ANY opposition that all her races prove to be a terrible mis-match. Just enjoy it!!!

Sooner or later the pretenders will HAVE to front up against her - but the result will be the same. She is without peer. I just get so excited seeing the ease with which she wins: I have ridden track gallops and used more energy than Luke Nolan did yesterday! As Peter Moody said afterwards " She's done nothing there; I'll have to pile the work into her this week and line her up again next week!"

What a CHAMPION! :) What a privilege to have seen her and long may it continue.

where is Sepoy where is Hay List, ask the Pollyannas they will know..

One thing for sure is they won't allow the first 800 be run in 51.75 .

As i have said a million times Black Sardine(aus) is a champion, BUT if you are happy with the way yesterdays "race" was run , fair enough.

Every one is entitled to their opinion, even Hugh Bowman...who suggested if they want a race then bring her to Sydney and take on Rain Affair

NO CONTEST: Rival jockeys handed Black Caviar her 18th win on a plate in a farcically run C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday

YEP, Boring and 100% farce...

I'd agree it was pretty disappointing that the other jockeys didn't serve it up to Black Caviar and truely test her.

However there are many examples in both horse racing and human sports where the outright champion causes the other competitiors to lose confidence. They go into their shells, they look to others to take the lead and in the end no one does. Having this occur is one of the benefits of being a champion.

I love watching the way bc relaxes in a race, shes a real sweetie.

Just a shame the jockeys are or the trainers or both are too scared to test the mighty BCs stamia. If either think crawling around to the half mile and then trying to outsprint this girl they are joking!!!

Half the field were resuming stayers / middle distance horses, so you couldn't expect them to go forward. The two sprinters settled in front of Black Caviar, and were ridden to run second which i suppose is the tragedy. They still both got well beaten (for a place), so I'm not sure they would have done any better had the pace been on - had they been out rolling along in front the rest of the field would have been even better suited.

Yes the Expressway was a better quality (sprint wise) field. And what's up with people saying Black Caviar could have gone up to Sydney to take them on...she was the one running in the G1 worth double the money of the G2...I'm sure they have floats going the other way
