Looks good, so far for Canterbury.. Ashburton, Oamaru, Timaru all close. Rangiora remains for training and trials and all West Coast tracks survive as community venues.

Project Stamina talks endlessly about change, yet says nothing about NZTR’s ballooning bureaucracy or how head office will cut its own costs. Once again, the burden falls on trainers, owners, breeders, and the grassroots. No meaningful consultation with the people at the coalface  just another insiders’ exercise where headquarters keeps growing, nobody listens, and the industry pays the price.Thats my take on it and why oh why MUST they have to close Foxton and Levin...to me its all a load of wasted time and money sorry.A few good ideas but as always the industry has to pay for Dick Street they dont try to cut costs anywhere.

Project Stamina is just another glossy report that asks the grassroots to change while avoiding the real issue. For years, New Zealand racing has been promised reform, yet costs keep rising, bureaucracy keeps growing, clubs disappear, and the people who fund and sustain the industry are expected to carry the burden. What is most telling is what the report doesn’t say. There is virtually no focus on reducing NZTR’s expanding administration or cutting the cost of head office. Instead, the pressure is once again placed on trainers, owners, breeders and clubs the very people who create the product and seem to get less and less say but just get told this is how it will be run.

The industry doesn’t need another review or another strategy. It needs accountable leadership that is prepared to cut bureaucracy, put participants first, and return more money to racing. Until governance is fixed, nothing else will be.Thats just my view FWIW

My quick take is that it is basically what has been talked about for years.

No solution to the foal crop, go figure.

As for the CD , still putting all their eggs into Awapuni, and backing the complete white elephant that is the Hastings/Flaxmere greenfield project.

The Hawkes Bay is miles from anywhere with a shrinking horse and trainer population. For an industry that stopped racing at Wairoa and Gisborne because of the supposed costs to owners, they now are still happy to keep sending people 3+ hours to Flaxmere. I don't get it.

And keeping New Plymouth and Wanganui, 2 of the worst winter tracks going.

As for up north, closing Te Aroha and Te Rapa signals the end of jumping up there, after all the money spent on Te Aroha, no idea.

This is nothing more than a ticking off of what they already wanted, just more precious industry funds chucked away.

Carry on Mr Ballasty.

None of this saves our industry.

Wouldn’t want to own a Riccarton based horse, travel costs have just exploded as on the East Coast only Riccarton and Wingatui

unfathomable Timaru threatened and Oamaru gone

No racing of any kind in Wellington

Lower West Coast North Island all gone

BUT given their governance history can’t rely on any action anytime soon and no doubt another report in five years or so will make further good reading. Sure is a rockshow this outfit

I mean it’s not just a report, there is a specific plan attached with the closure of 10ish tracks including Trentham

The same stuff that's been talked about for over a decade.

Where are the trials and jumpouts going to be held.

Oh waipukarau maybe.

If this rehash is all they can come up with to save the industry then I'm out.

Fuck em ,this is just a money grab, that isn't fixing the major underlying issues our industry faces going forward.

Our industry needs current solutions, there might not be an industry by the time they implement this report.

C'mon Mr Ballasty come up with some serious resolves that aren't going to take 10 years.

Show me your different.

So I’ve  Just reread through this Project Stamina piece of rubbish sorry , and to me it’s just more of the same. The answer always seems to be closing tracks, centralising racing, creating more training hubs and expecting clubs, trainers and participants to adapt.

What I find incredible is what the report doesn’t talk about. There’s virtually nothing about cutting NZTR’s ever growing bureaucracy or reducing the cost of head office. Instead, it’s the people at the grassroots who are expected to make all the sacrifices while administration carries on as usual.

The other question is who they actually listened to. The people at the coalface  the trainers, owners, breeders and clubs who keep this industry going don’t appear to have had much influence over the outcome. Once again, it’s another top down plan that asks everyone else to change while ignoring the biggest and growing problem that never gets resolved  the cost of governance.

The Chairman Ballesty can’t even sit down and have an open conversation without sticking to the script his marketing minders will not allow it? Everything has to go through the marketing people so everyone keeps pushing the same narrative. If that’s how leadership operates, you’ve got a real problem it's called communism. That’s not openness, that’s message control. It’s circling the wagons, protecting the people at the top, and making sure nobody says anything that might upset the story they’re trying to sell. If that’s the culture, don’t expect anything to change.

Dead right - need to get the basics right......spending less than what you earn.

Just like any household or successful business.

Selling the family silver (tracks and land) will only prop things up for a limited amount of time if the basic income vs outgoings is not addressed.

So obvious to the average man in the street, but those in power are oblivious to those facts.

There are just so many stupid things in both reports.

Several tracks are being closed down because they have too many meetings to be community meetings, but not enough to be provincial meetings. The likes of Motukarara, Timaru, Rotorua and Te Aroha.

Stamina wants to close down Oamaru, Timaru and Ashburton and several others, which is just too silly for words really. Timaru because it doesn't have enough horse population, despite having three of the South Island's top trainers. One Equine sounds like they want to spend money on the gallops side at Timaru, which actually made me fall off my chair.

Several tracks are listed under Capital Recycling, but they actually have no resale value, Timaru, Oamaru etc.

Waikouaititi at $5,335,000 is worth more than Trentham at $5,000,000. Who would have thought that. A good trivial pursuit question.

The Stamina report sounds like it was written by people with absolutely no knowledge of the racing industry, perhaps written by AI. The One Equine report does sound like the authors have a passing knowledge of the industry.

I hate to think how much the Stamina report cost. Total waste of money.
