Great to see Luk Chin on the Guerin report tonight. What a character 83year old and more spritely than most 60year Olds.

Can someone please….Post link to this interview…. Be interested to watch…..

We need more of this, some of the characters, smaller trainers, those that are more in it for love rather than the almighty dollar.

Same for the thoroughbreds, it keeps us grounded and reminds us of the true values of the sport.

I remember John Burgess driving around the Canterbury and coast regional for quite a few years, also George Shand, Trevor Thomas, few names from the past, and great stawards of the game.

It's a real shame because not many around anymore , well not up North anyway .

Back in the day had guys like John Wallen ( Gaelic Princess ) Dan Corrigan ( Nells Pride ) lost this big man at a young age . Wade McCort , Red Hillmer , Wally Francis , Alan Fraser , Alan Fausett , Ian Hillard , Mike and Alan Dodds ( John Tudor ) Jeff Crouth , Lew Driver , Gareth Dixon , Tony Pericich ( Stormy Morn ) Alan Dunsmuir , Tony Milina , John Cooney , Mike Barry and so many more . All that has sadly disappeared with no new ones entering the game

Ivan Schwamm was still in the sulky at a ripe old age. He wasn't afraid to drive his horses hard all the way. I got a few decent collects off his drives on occasions. Cantago was one I had a few good results with. I was talking to him at the Motukarara workouts not long after he started training it and he thought he could get a few wins with it at short notice and it won three times within a month and paid double figures every time.

Yes another name from the past, Doug McCormick another that spring to mind, we’ve certainly seen some great horses and horsemen from that era, who would have ever thought they’d be racing an 0C class trot on the little ole all weather track at Greymouth, with the likes of Even Speed , Stormy Morn ,Nigel Craig, Pointer Hanover, a great era of trotting, Good to see Mr Chin still training an driving, bet he’s certainly seem change from those good ole days, but as someone said not many of them left, couple of my favourites from those days, Basil Dean, and No Response, his withering last bursts a sight to behold.
