Is that the same Peter Young of old driving in the Amateur Race at Cambridge on Wednesday ? He must be at least late 70's

I would say so Charlie.  The Peter Young driving at Cambridge was a junior driver back in 1967.  He was an open driver until 2016 and let his license go until recently so would surely be him.

I was there that day as well. From a personal perspective I was very unhappy that my bet on fellow Southlander just missed and also that Henry Skinner just failed to win what we now call a Group 1...he was also driving Hi Foyle when he was an unlucky second to Young Quinn in the Auckland Cup.

My three main takeaways from the video are:

1) Look at the crowd...normal then but unbelievable today.

2) Look at the whip action.... ditto

3) Look at the lack of action during the race. No wonder the times were so much slower then. Today's much faster times are partly due to the evolution of the standardbred, partly to the changes in sulkies and tracks but I think mostly due to the lack of aggression shown by drivers then. Most races never changed the running order much until closing on the home straight.

Nostalgia eh!!!   How can that be 47 years ago??

Time flies alright . I remember Roy Purdon saying if Hi Foyle wasn't so unsound he would have been the best horse he has trained .  If you look back at the interdom final Young Quinn won , Hi Foyle was very unlucky
