Menangle 10/01/26

R1  Former Kiwi Still Rollin' - Trained Jason Grimson - Driven Cameron Hart - Margin 4 metres

R2  Former Kiwi Captains Mistress - Trained Jason Grimson - Driven Cameron Hart - Margin 18.5 metres

R3  Former Kiwi Tokyo Rose - Trained Jason Grimson - Driven Cameron Hart - Margin 10 metres

R4  Former Kiwi Demon Blue - Trained Jason Grimson - Driven Jack Callaghan - Margin 1 metre

R5  Former Kiwi Rakero Rocket - Trained Jason Grimson - Driven Cameron Hart - Margin 12 metres

Not a bad night at the office. The race of the night though was old Bulletproof Boy beating Kingman and Himanameisjeff at Melton.

The low point was using a split screen to carry two races running at the same time; Temora (where??) and Melton, the latter a Group 1 featuring Keayang Zahara and Arcee Phoenix. And guess which commentary they carried? Yep. Bloody Temora. And since the Melton race finished first they just moved on to something else once Temora was concluded 😡

Late PS; Grimson's only other runner was a close second in R6. I think Hart was done for the night at 4 from 5, most winning margins in double figures.

  • Idolmite changed the title to Rakero Rocket wins in 1.47

Idol mate, has the Mistress been sold or just there for racin purposes?

Cheers Iraklis

Iraklis mate, I believe the mare was always going to race in Australia eventually. She is owned by the Australian Boots, who seems to race hundreds of horses in both Australia and NZ. Pure would probably know how many horses Boot owns? Captain's Mistress is well bred, half-sister to Merlin, so she's a big loss to the NZ breeding industry.

Don't know. I took a quaddie on the first 4 races but was watching with the sound down for the first 3 legs as they were winning by half the length of the straight 🤣 so l didn't pick up any other news. Had to turn the sound up for the 4th leg though as Demon Blue took all night to wind up.

Missed the second quaddie as I thought Captains Knock might beat Rakero Rebel which was a dumb decision. wouldn't have even seen which way he went with binoculars 🤦‍♂️ Man they fly on that Menangle Track.

Rakero Rocket is a very good horse .... but he's not THAT good!

But then again, you could say that about every horse Grimson trains!

Some last 3 or 4 starts, some last a dozen starts, but they all eventually blow a turbo.

Except Swayzee. His turbo is indestructible!

Mick Boots is getting up near 100 horses. I read he uses 17 different trainers throughout Australia and Nz.

Swayzee is obviously near his best horse,  but he has always raced Captains Mistress out of Nathan Williamsons in the South Island . Since Nathan had the bad accident the mare has moved to Grimson's to prepare for the BIG Group 1 Mares races coming up soon in NSW.  Hopefully Bootsie still has other horses with Nathan to continue with when back in the bike.

Ironically,  trainer Jason Grimson's only race loss last night after winning the first 5 that Idolmite listed above, was in the Mares race  , when his horse was placed 2nd,  to a mare raced by Boots named 'PRECISE' trained out of the Brad Hewitt stable . Another very good trainer in NSW.

Bootsie is sure to have a very good year. Grimson has shares in Swayzee himself so actually drove Swayzee himself in his big win over Don Hugo last week.

I saw a race at Albion Park I think it was . Masterley won it . I assume it was the horse Paul Nairn had over here

Correct.Masterly was exported March 2025 as the winner of 9 Races & $146k Earnings.

Is still raced by Kiwi Owners & member of new Trainer's family.

Has had 14 starts in Oz,all at Albion Park,& had been winless until this Sat.

So it turns out that RAKERO ROCKET's 1.47.3 mile rate last Saturday night was the second fastest time ever in Australia, behind only MY FIELD MARSHALL's 1.46.9 in the Miracle Mile some years back 😲 That's some improvement!! 🤷‍♂️ That makes you think, doesn't it? 🤔

The times at Menangle are amazing with plenty going under 1:50. So Rakero Rocket time doesn't suprise me that much. What is more surprising is that Field Marshal clocked the record time 1.46.9 so long ago and it hasn't been beaten, yet. It was a different era and some of the 'tonics' used back then are now banned. It's interesting because Jason Grimson used to work for T. Butt. That makes me think...

Did he? I did not know that......
