Lindsay Park has acknowledged the heartbreaking loss of seven horses following the Longwood bushfire that impacted the property on Friday in Euroa.

In a statement, Racing Victoria extended its sympathies to the Hayes family, the Lindsay Park team, owners and all those affected by the tragic event, recognising the deep emotional toll such circumstances place on the people who care for the horses every day.

Racing Victoria also acknowledged the efforts of emergency services and those working tirelessly in extremely difficult conditions to protect lives and property, while confirming it remains in contact with Lindsay Park and will continue to offer support during this challenging time.

The governing body reminded all racing participants that support services are available, including Stableline, which provides free and strictly confidential mental health and wellbeing support to industry participants and their immediate family members. Stableline can be contacted on 1300 520 122 to arrange face-to-face, telephone or online appointments, with further information available via the Racing Victoria website.

I heard one of the horses was Mr Brightside , hope that’s not the case. Very sad

I think this is a rumor...I would of thought he would be one of the first moved.

I'll tell you why Tom, the people of Victoria voted for this tyrannical government.  This is the same government who has placed an insidious levy on the rural and regional Victorians to pay for the CFA, yet they fail to provide the Volunteers with equipment.  Current equipment is around 29 years old....

in addition there are serious consequences if you burn off...however as Victoria has been in the grip of a drought for over 2 years, it seems the majority of the fires are either lightning strikes or deliberately lit.  its just another series of unintended consequences the people of Victoria must deal with......sadly.

How is it the government's fault for a nature event?

Read it again!.......they don't allow property clearing, and they have vetoed any new firefighting vehicles, many are 29 years old, many have no fucking aircon!

The state is rooted, they are stony broke, so many of the poor buggers can't move interstate, their crime rate through the roof, and the lunatics with boxes of matches on the loose.

Most fires are man made or lightning strikes, if the farmer can't clear his land and so many houses went up because of that low down, stupid fucking rule, the GREENS are to Blame also, with their conservation zealot mantra, and yet allowed all those wind farms that destroyed Koala habitats, they're not conservationists, they're economic terrorists, and Allan and her no good bunch of clowns are doing to Victoria just what Kirner and Cain did in the 80s.

The poor farmer and land owner are paying heavily for those policies, do you know Zakhu that Allan placed a levy on rural and regional property owners which has impacted the CFA accordingly.

Who the hell would want to be a volunteer firefighter, they deserve knighthoods, all of them, women, men, all of them.

Couldn’t agree more Farnarkler, it wasn’t too many years ago when the Victorian government at the behest of the greenies banned farmers from grazing in parts of the national parks as had been tradition for decades, 1 month later thousands of acres were destroyed because of their decision. But of course they then preached the old its global warming rather than incompetence. It’s tragic when people lose their homes and sadly lives but when these brain dead politicians make stupid decisions based on myths they make it 100 times worse. Apologies for my post regarding Mr Brightside should have double checked, glad he is ok

David Hayes Opens Up After Fires Devastate Lindsay Park

12 JANUARY, 2026MICHAEL COX

Hayes details the frantic days spent fighting Victorian bushfires alongside his family before returning to Hong Kong on race morning.

David Hayes has revealed the full extent of the devastation suffered at his family’s Lindsay Park property after making an emergency dash from Hong Kong to Australia to help battle bushfires that tore through Victoria.

The veteran trainer returned to Hong Kong at 7am on race morning just hours after flames passed through the Euroa-based property, leaving seven horses dead and most of the stable’s infrastructure destroyed.

“Well, we’ve had a time with the fires – a really bad time,” Hayes said after the Class 4 win of China Win in Hong Kong. “I haven’t slept for two and a half days.”

Hayes explained he had only just left Australia when he arrived back in Hong Kong, after spending more than two days fighting the fires alongside his wife Prue and their three sons — Ben, JD and Will.

“I arrived home here in Hong Kong at seven o’clock this morning, I was still in Australia fighting fires,” he said. “We lost 90 percent of our infrastructure. It was pretty horrific. We were looking after 320 horses with just four people.”

Despite the scale of the blaze, Hayes said the family and staff managed to save the vast majority of the horses on the property, though seven did not survive.

“We saved all the horses bar seven,” he said. “Seven didn’t make it. The main stable is okay because we’re surrounded by 100 acres of irrigation. We had the irrigation on and got as many horses inside as we could.

“JD and I had to go and catch the horses and bring them into the safe zone. It was really, really terrible.”

Hayes described a confronting scene in the aftermath, with the fire burning through almost all paddocks and destroying fencing across the vast property.

While the main stable complex survived, Hayes said the loss of fencing alone was immense.

“It’s 1500 acres of fencing,” he said. “You imagine all the fences … but the stables, (they’re) okay.”

Once he knew the immediate danger had passed, Hayes boarded a flight back to Hong Kong to fulfil his training commitments.

“When I knew the fire had passed, I got on the plane,” he said. “I thought I’d see China Win win today. It was a bad couple of days.”

Late Sunday, multiple fires were still burning out of control across Victoria, with hundreds of structures destroyed and communities continuing to assess the damage.

The Hayes family later confirmed the seven horses lost included five spelling horses and two retirees, with one additional horse remaining in critical condition. They said 320 horses were saved through the combined efforts of family, staff and emergency services. ∎

Farnarkler and Ned Kelly; thank you for your comments.

I have read snippets of news about Victorian state politics over the past few years and thought;

"these bastards are trying to reduce their state to New Zealand's level."

Unfortunately Victoria have dropped to even lower levels, as a Queenslander I probably shouldn’t care but we have large numbers of these Vic mexicans crossing our border every year 😂. Thankfully the tide is changing in Aussie and hopefully we will be rid of them and albo before long. End of sermon 😂

Here was I thinking that Ned Kelly came from Benalla in Victoria.  Now you are trying to tell me he was a Cane Toad.

Ned refers to Albo.  I recall that SCOtt MOrrison was irreverently referred to as Scomo.  But nowhere have I seen ANthony ALbanese referred to Anal. Albanese will set up a Royal Commission to look at the Bondi tragedy and has appointed a left wing demented woman to lead it.  In about 1979, following the Erebus Air New Zealand debacle, N.Z. set up a Royal Commission and they got a hard nosed no nonsense Aussie, Justice McMahon, to run it.  McMahon's comment about Air N.Z.'s management and their "orchestrated litany of lies" comment will live forever.  McMahon got right up the nostrils of our Piggy Muldoon.  Aussie has the talent but Albanese will not let them run it.  That left wing demented woman would be better suited navigating the Manawanui.
