Nominations have been kept open, but currently there are 67 horses nominated, and 30 of them are trained by Michael House!

It should not be viable for him to do that, it reflects very badly on the HRNZ'S handicapping in the South Island, and the Stakes allocated to the North.

In what way do you think it reflects badly on the handicapping in the South?

I don't understand why other owner/trainers don't see the opportunity and send teams to Palmy

As a Waikato owner, I have had horses race at Manawatu  - but far from a preferred option as costs more and I don't want to make the long 5 hr trip to see my horse race (part of the pleasure and point of being an owner), especially as there is little at the track and in Palmerston North to attract me. In contrast, in the past I did enjoy racing in Taranaki  (manageable distance even for a day trip, beautiful scenery on route and great place to explore). Trainers do know what keeps their owners in the game: if Palmy is the only place their horse can win, that's where it will go, but if it is earning good stakes close to home, that's where it will compete.

Just not that easy for owners to whip around the corner and watch their horse run and if you can't be there you would need a bloody good reason to own one.

You make good points, particularly  about the attractions, or lack of them in Palmy. I grew up in the dump ,and got into trouble at school for my smart ass answer to the question, "what's the best thing about Palmy?" I said "the airport", because it's the quickest way of getting out of the place.
