Damask Rose will not race in Sydney for the Golden Eagle but instead will take her Place in the Empire Rose at Flemington on the same day.

Blake Shinn has taken the ride, no doubt he had plenty of offers but will ride Damask Rose. She got no favours last start, Can Blake make a difference, I think so.

A realistic decision .

Where to now , home for the Aotearoa Classic ???

It's a worry that none of our 3yo form is standing bar LL whose racing was in genuine group races .

Savaglee hasn't raced yet as a 4yo. He may well come back. Willydoit was fair today over a distance shorter than his best. Lucy went great, wait until she gets over a little more ground. It wouldn't surprise me if Alabama Lass bounced back. They were our best 3yos.

I don't count Damask Rose as having any real 3yo form. Her best group performance was a 3rd in a small group 3 fillies race. I think she is the most over hyped and poorly placed (in Australia) horse to leave NZ. I have no idea what they were thinking. No group form in NZ and they raced her in three Australian races where she was never going to be competitive.

Think TA are finding out how competitive Metrop racing is Ozzie really is. DR was just awful- had enough id say

I'm not a Te Akau knocker, I think they make an amazing contribution to NZ racing,  they have got a lot of new people involved, and they have an amazing record in the NZ sweepstakes and slot races, so win a lot of money, and they have done very well creating some stallions and selling broodmares for big money.. They do a lot of things right. It made perfect sense to send some horses to the SI and others to Australia in search of better spring tracks.

However, their placement of horses in Australia seems quite strange at times. The filly La Dorada was placed in races where she was never going to be competitive, likewise Damask Rose was raced way out of her class. Even yesterday they had horses run last in the Derby and last in the Wakeful, certainly Mark Walker said he would never have raced that maiden in the Wakeful but the owners were keen.

There is so much good money available in Australia, often in small fields with group status. A win in a weak Australian Group 3 would probably have enhanced Damask Rose's value much more than running down the track in Group 1s.

Chris Waller is a master at placing his horses where they can be competitive, admittedly he does have an awful lot of horses to place.
