Yes, an impressive performance.

He was second to my Arc fancy SOSIE in last year's Niel before running eighth in the big race. He had 2400m form in France but on decent ground (he won twice at Chantilly on good to soft turf).

He's now 7/2 favourite up here with AL RIFFA at 6s and 12s bar the two.

The biggest run outside the fav was Caulfield Cup favourite Half Yours, which made up impressive ground on some very smart middle-distance types.

Yes, completely agree. Outstanding run. I think more of Half Yours after than run yesterday than what I did after his win in the Naturalism a couple of weeks ago because he was competing against the best WFA horses in Australia and preformed with so much credit. I'm not a punter that likes to take short priced favourites but hard to see him getting beat in the Caulfield Cup for mine.

Some pretty ordinary runs from the NZ contingent in the Cummings yesterday. Hard to see any of them being contenders in any of the big Cups.

Said it before but I'll say it again, a "good" Kiwi horse is simply not good enough to foot it with the best in Aussie. They have to be exceptional especially now given the influx of HK and European horses.

Almost every staying race [2000m+] in every corner of Oz is crowded with Euro imports, sacked by the factory city stables or been sent north and south to the factory stables branch divisions!

The odd Oz bred trying to compete with a horse with IRE/FR/GB birth place and a price tag of north of 300/400K is now 'De Rigueur'.

As NZ doesn't breed the staying types anymore and Oz haven't since Jesus played full back for Jerusalem its been a playground for tried horses from the northern hemisphere and no signs of it slowing soon.

Just another sign of the times........sadly.

Trav was great past the line, looking like he needs every bit of two miles now. It's a massive shame Mark Twain went amiss last year when he was already exempt from the ballot, because he's done nothing this prep.

There are a couple of videos on racing.com recapping the Turnbull and they point out how good the ride was on the winner, leaning in on Deakin and forcing him to the fence to avoid getting stuck three wide the trip. One also pointed out the ride of JMac on Via Sistina which I thought was a ripper at first watch; he was four back the fence, I blinked, and he was three wide with cover.
