It seems that geo-blocking has worked very well for Entain. Their figures show a large increase in active TAB accounts.

July 2024    82,800

July 2025  103,100

Entain also say that 90% of win and place betting is now done on fixed odds.

Do we know how much is actually bet on fixed odds or do we only see the tote figures?

It is also notable that sports betting is much bigger than betting on horses. Young people are driving this I suppose, so the trick is to get them interested in horse betting as well.

It's not on a night l watch racing so it doesn't bother me, but along with their "Sunday Sesh" (or whatever they've dubbed it) they certainly seem to enjoy having a different type of show on each of the main days.

There was a fair amount of money thrown around (up to $100) to open accounts - perhaps another KPI bribe that may not be all as good as it seems on paper in terms of growing the business?

I don't think it's geo blocking?

From what I understood is any agency accepting bets from NZ are liable for a huge fine.

So they basically ban any New Zealand accounts. 

 I could be wrong. Either way same result i guess

I have a Tabcorp account and in July they informed me that I could no longer access my account from NZ. I have left it open because I use it when in Australia. Of course same thing applies in Aussie - I can't use my NZ TAB account.

This is all part of the Entain deal.

Stupidity at its highest. I had to get  a VPN to bet on both agencies when in the other jurisdiction
