Kennel Saturation

With McInerney and Cole kennels they must have 50% of the dog racing population, and they are not slowing up.

I note McInerney has a number of dogs 6 years old still running once or twice a week. 

With what is going on with greyhounds its not a good look racing them into the ground. I know there are no specific rules around regularity of racing, but surely these are the sort of things that could be explored.

Another thing that could be looked at is % of notable injuries per kennels to look at any patterns.

The 2 above mentioned Trainers have been the subject of controversy one more than one occasion .. does nobody care ? .. hence the position the industry is in.

GRNZ tried to bring in a new rule earlier this year where a Dog could not race twice in a 48hr period this rule was put to all clubs to vote on they voted against the new proposed rule that's because nearly all clubs are run by people with connections to trainers that's the way its been for years

Unfortunatly not. I know he doesnt these days but Mcinerney Sr used to openly refer to himself as a greyhound farmer and Coles not far behind.

That's both sad and totally unacceptable, NZGRC only have themselves to blame by letting certain people in the industry get away with blue murder

That's also really sad Alan. And there are a few working still or have been at Trackside over the years who were associated with Rogue trainers. You can't tell me they didn't know what was going on ! .. because everyone else did.

This has been the problem for to long Clubs have had to much control and the people who do the hard work lost their voice.  No clue on welfare as voting is decided by pure greed.

I tried for many years to get change but I was called a shit stirrer by many people even when I was on the Christchurch board it was a battle to get change when it come to track safety. So after many years and some very successful race dogs it was easier to step away from a sport I really enjoyed at the start but it became very toxic over the years and very top heavy. I can't understand why GRNZ did not bring in the 48hrs between races in as a policy like they did with the PBD box draws

I can tell you right now, this wouldnt even scratch the surface of some of the shady things the GRNZ used to do.

I genuinely feel bad for the honest participants and I still have several family members directly involved, but the leaders only have themselves to blame.

The last 3 yrs were too little to late and as Alan Williams has said, people that were raising all of these issues a decade ago when the reforms being made now were needed, the leadership aswell as the RIU not only laughed them out of the building, but openly targeted these licensed holders for things other trainers and handlers would get away with because they were "troublemakers".
