Sweeney talking up Magic Carpet pre-race at Taupo today by some new sire called Santonio Alladin.    Seemingly oblivious to the fact the horse was scratched.  🤦‍♀️

Classic Sweeney.

Poor old George Simon trying to negotiate French names.

Elle Sourit is not pronounced Elle Saw It.

It actually means She Smiles in French.

It is pretty hard to expect commentators to know all the correct pronunciations of foreign words. Some owners of course want their horse's names pronounced in an unusual fashion anyhow.

The French usually leave out the T when pronouncing words. So the next time George comes across that horse just leave off the T and call it Elle Souri.

I know I'm nitpicking, but since when have we called the T.A.B "tab"?

The Australian lady is using it, and I know they call the Australian version the tab, but usually we would say T...A...B.

Anyway, just thought her bosses would tell her, unless we're calling it tab now.

I've heard it being referred to as "The Tab" for as long as I can remember. However, I'm not talking about by industry representatives on the TV (otherwise known as "the television").

Yes, you wonder sometimes wonder how much effort is made to pronounce foreign names/phrases correctly.
Since it's almost Spring, shall we be look on the Brightside and be grateful he didn't pronounce it "Ell So You Are It" or "Ell Sour It" ?
Elle Sourit  (pron: Ell Sue REE) can also mean 'she smiled' (same spelling but past tense, same pronunciation).
