Like it or not racings going well , it's biggest issue is an age problem , owners , life long punters  all growing old (if they are lucky) but  Craig Grylls has just won the premiership and won a whopping $6,000,000 in NZ , so prosperity is possible in the NZ industry . Many race cafe commentators portray the NZ industry as being in the dull drums but the reality is  things have progressively changed which has created the opportunity for a rider to win races to the value of $6,000,000 so those changes are positive . My calculation is Craig has won 5% of 6 mill =$300,000 plus riding fees and the trainers of those horses he weighed in on have received $600,000 so a great example of what's possible . If you aren't happy with the way racings going the first place to look might be the mirror .

Craig also rides at a lot of trials meetings, those riding fees would amount to quite a lot on top of the $300k. He is a genuine bloke so good on him.

Another top guy making big dough is Stephen Marsh..I read his team won $7m during the season. 10% of that looks pretty good..plus he would get some % when horses he's trained get sold.

Once a year?

Nice if you win it and of course many promoted races are once a year , nothing special about that BUT HEY look at this .

I see this is nominated , Ka Ying Lucky (AUS) 17th in order but if it makes the field with a good draw would be a real chance .

 Awapuni synthetic Sunday .

Race 7    3:42 pm

 SP COND 1400m - $100,000

Now that's flying , and  a full field with strong form , when the moneys up peoples resistance seems to disappear no problem running a full field .

What on earth are you smoking?

Great question I'm going well as is my selective punting  but I'm sure some of you could do with a few happy pills it might even improve your punting skills .

I note the winners of the $100,000k races will take home around $60k and the noms for Riccarton on Wednesday are strong with good stakes on offer .

Saturdays big challenge not to be missed West Coast v Jesko , a rider change for West Coast and Jesko is a horse with huge potential but not as experienced will make it a fascinating race to watch .
