BIG KAHUNA CHARITY PUNTERS CLUB CONTINUES THIS SATURDAY

Maher stable have had a big opinion of this girl for a while now and that win at Flemington proved they were right.

Only her second start, first time down the straight, yet ran the fastest sectionals of the day under hands and heels riding.

Craig Williams was certainly impressed and her rating backed that up.  Blackbooker for sure…

Our sprinting ranks need fresh talent, and She's an Artist put her hand up in a big way with a highly impressive 101.5 rating win over 1100m at Flemington on Saturday. Sitting just off a genuine speed, she led the outside division down the straight, cruised into the race stylishly and hit the front at the 200m mark. When others began to slow, which invariably happens after genuine early pace, she continued to power clear with a fast final 200m to win by 3.8 lengths in clearly the best time rating of the day.

Although it came in 3YO Open Handicap grade, this performance was genuine Group 2 quality given the current sprinting landscape. Her late strength suggests 1200m will be no issue, possibly even more suitable, and to produce a 101.5 rating at just her second start marks her as a serious talent. She's an exciting filly to follow into the spring.

It's a bit like backing a Melbourne Cup prospect in April/May. There is always one runner that attracts attention and it typically runs down the track in the big race.

That was a good win, but I would be surprised if she won a biggish race in the spring, despite the sprinting ranks in Aus being thin.

Been in my BB since day 1 Dave after I watched her second trial.

She is extra, super extra

Have little doubt she will be the sprinting superstar of Vic, totally untapped and won this race on her ear. Scary serious horse

Wouldn’t be writing her off that quickly Sunshine.

Melham thought the two weeks was too short for her and the softer ground wouldn’t have helped either.

Not writing her off as a nice enough type, but I'm writing her off as a "sprinting superstar" because those aren't often racing in winter, and that was a relatively average field yesterday, which is being nice.

The same thing happens with Melbourne Cup markets. There is always a standout performer in May/June, they firm into favouritism for the Cup, and they typically either don't run or run down the track.

SB, yesterday was HQs Winter final day and mostly a GF day for those headed to the paddock for return in Spring. The $ on offer are very attractive for the lesser horses hence why she started I guess

I thought she would comfortably put the field away but for the last 30 metres she seemed to flounder somewhat and Jamie put no further pressure on her but don’t think she was going to catch the winner anyway as she seemed to have bottomed out late

I think she will return and view her sweet spot as 1100/1200m preferably on the straight 1200 with a wide draw and good ground.

My friends in MLB tell me she is very very highly rated but that is in the future I guess, time will tell

She's An Artist started a heavily supported $1.30 favourite and was given every chance at Flemington on Saturday. Jamie Melham rode her perfectly in the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes (1200m) but she simply wasn't good enough on the day. It's that simple.

I've got no issue with punters having an opinion. That's part of the game and a big part of what makes racing the vibrant sport it is. We live in a democracy and everyone is entitled to their view, even if I or anyone else might strongly disagree. Say it respectfully, and we can have a conversation.

But what happened after Saturday's race was not a conversation. It was cowardice, plain and simple.

The online abuse aimed at Jamie Melham and even at her husband Ben is pathetic. It was embarrassing, weak, pitiful, and completely unacceptable. We've seen too much of this nonsense lately and it's time we as an industry, and as decent human beings, stand together and say enough is enough.

Such was the vile nature of the tweets I requested that we republish redacted versions, but even then, given the sensitive nature of the content, that wasn't permitted for legal reasons.

If you know someone who posted one of those cowardly comments pick up the phone. Tell them to grow up, pull their head in, and maybe even try learning something about racing.

And as for the likes of a keyboard warrior like @ckembari84 – you're beyond help.

Let's protect what we love … racing, its people, and the good conversations that should come with it. There's no place for abuse.

I did not have a bet on She's An Artist but saw nothing wrong with the ride from Jamie. She got her out of the gates well, found a rhythm outside the leaders. She looked to have every chance and wasn't quite good enough to beat what I think is a decent filly for Moody/Coleman (especially down the straight).

It can be very hard for a young horse to run a similar figure when she rated extremely high the start prior. She's a nice filly and she didn't lose me on the weekend. Not saying she is G1 material but Listed and potential G3 in the right race in my view.

I think punters try and blame someone for their loss and it most of time is sadly the jockey.

Jamie Melham is a good rider and I have seen far worse rides than what she gave the shorty.

Little doubt she will return, poor Jamie unfairly copping it but the sun rises tomorrow and another race day in a couple of months after a freshner

Odds on Willo will be her rider and likely they will restrict her to straight 1200 at HQ on a good track preferably with an outside draw.  Can’t wait as I think she is very special
