Well I see the 600mtr boxes are to return to Addington well what a mistake that will be for Dog welfare. When the track was rebuild a year or so ago it was agreed by GRNZ to remove these boxes as they were having a major impact on this area of the track. Now with abit of whinging from a hand full of trainers the Club is trying to bring them back they have gone ahead and paid to have an old set of Boxes refurbished. They have done this with no consultation with the RIB or GRNZ so much for animal welfare we love our dogs they love to race BULLSHIT ITS ABOUT GREED

Well that's where you are wrong I was always very out spoken about track safety and animal welfare but no one was interested in what I had to say.in fact if I hadn't passed on all my information to Bill Wilson and GRNZ regarding the issues we had at ChCh the  track may have never been rebuilt. As for me building kennels for trainers what F... dose that have to do with my comments about the 600mtr boxes. One more thing Virtual1 I don't and have never had to hide behind a nom de plume like yourself.

At Least I have tried to help some trainers out over the years Mike unlike your self who took advantage of an old an frail trainer in his later year. There's an old saying Mike don't throw stones in glass houses

Not getting involved in the mud slinging but how was it actually determined that dogs were hurt more often on the distance starts from the corner?

From personal experience, i generally found distance dogs to be very sound and hardly ever had an injury from these race starts.

Infact, id generally think that the injury rates from sprinting and middle distance starts would be higher

It wasn't the Distance dogs injuries that were the problem. When the track was first built it was never designed for a 600 mtr start they were added years later after they were put in place over the years the major injurie rate got higher for sprinters from the sprint boxes to the bend where the 600mtr start was it changed the track dynamics on that corner

It was the same reason why GRNZ got rid of the 600mtr starts at Wanganui and Manaku

But the change hasnt resulted in any change to the injury rates on tracks.

So Im not really sure theres any correlation here.

The major Injury rate at ChCh has dropped.

Is that because of the bends or pbd though? I know from research done in Aus and the first 2 yrs here, pbd races led to between a 15-35% drop in all injuries and higher drop in serious injuries.

I would be interested in seeing the actual data here from before and after specifically and where these injuries were occuring (also acknowledging Chruschurch canvases were lowered. These always resulted in foreign dogs running of either bend)

Alot of trainers don't believe in the PBD System at Addington the cambers on this track are the steepest of any track in the country dogs have always been forced down to the bend no matter where they draw the track also has the sharpest bends of any track that was found to be true when the track was surveyed last year
