El Vencedor and Mr Brightside's performances show how far NZ and Aus racing is behind Hong Kong and Japan, and to some extent, Europe.

Anything past 1200m and they just can't compete, and I would fancy Ka Ying Rising to put a hole in The Everest field.

I see it differently.

Both El Vencidor and Mr Brightside are at the end of a very long season.

When both NZ and Australia had good success in HK, it was at the International Meeting in December.

Ka Ying Rising will be interesting.

For him to be successful in The Everest  believe that it will necessitate the Hayes Team getting him down to Australia months before the race, not flying the week before, as we are required to do.

Now I have opened myself up to something 😂

I think thats a little unfair SB, maybe they are a little behind but both of them were at the end of tough seasons, hard to condemn then on their runs today FWIW...and Ka Ying Rising will be hard to beat if he turns up like he did today.

I hope Mr B maybe can end up at the Legends for his retirement...he has nothing to prove.

Really? Perhaps they both failed to acclimatise quickly enough on the hit-and-run raid. The same is true of many horses travelling long distances and asked to beat high-class opposition. (Ask some of the trainers of European raiders to VRC Cup carnival.)

But when European horses come to Australia for essentially a hit-and-run mission (Dubai Honour) they don't have the same excuses?

Ex-HK horses come back to Aus and NZ with 000000 form lines and string wins together.

Sure, they had long campaigns I guess, but they finished last, with the exception of a broken down runner. I don't believe there are any horses racing in Australasia (not including imports) that can compete past 1200-1400m in Hong Kong at the top level.

Since it could be a great night for Kiwi-bred, here's a quick quiz question:

From a pedigree perspective, what do Ka Ying Rising, Mr Brightside and El Vencedor all have in common?

Taiona, the dam of Sovereign Red, Gurner's Lane and Delia's Choice. with Foxwood, Opposing Forces, Will Power and Mr. B. nearby. Ka Ying Rising looks to be an exceptional horse, perhaps the class of Black Caviar?

Yes, correct. TAIONA (SIR TRISTRAM-VICKYJOY) was bred and owned by lady Justine Hogan.

SOVEREIGN RED appears in the pedigree of EL VENCEDOR's dam STRICTLY MATERNAL;
both KA YING RISING and MR BRIGHTSIDE are direct descendants of TAIONA (mother also of 1982 Caulfield-Melbourne Cup winner GURNER'S LANE, TRICHELLE ...)

What a broodmare!

El Vencedor reminds me a bit of Sir Slick, who used to be able to win 1600m-2000m G1s in NZ by dominating from the front. Ironically he also went to HK for the QEII Cup, drew barrier 1, led until the turn and finished 11/11, while EV finished 10/11 after the Japanese mare broke down.

Bloody awful weekend for the NZ horses wasn’t it ?

Crocetti runs last in Perth after not getting the best of runs.

El Vencedor went out way too quickly and weakened to last in the QE2 at ShaTin.

The Oz horses Mr Brightside and Royal Patronage fared no better in the Champions Mile finishing last and second last respectively.

Ka Ying Rising ( Kiwi bred ) was outstanding in the Chairmans Sprint making it 12 wins in a row.

The Everest in October looks his for the taking. $2.10 on FO looks money for jam.

Ka Ying Rising? Puts 3 lengths on anything Australia has at the moment.

Has to get there of course, but wet track and Jimmysstar ( $7 for the adventurous ) look the only dangers.

A wet track would be the only risk. Jimmysstar will be too far back to run down Ka Ying Rising, who has an ability to sustain its speed throughout and not get tired at the end.

It will be great to finally see an HK sprinter head overseas, so hopefully he comes.

If and its a big if he turns up in Sundays form yes he will be very hard to beat, but there is a ton of water to go under the bridge before then, he needs to come back to form after the spell, needs to travel well and then turn up in the same form come Everest day...no such thing as a certainty in racing...but he is a huge chance for sure.

He has already spelled multiple times and come back with a string of wins. He passes the eye test, and there are no sprinting stars in Australia currently. Briasa won the TJ Smith, and whilst a nice type in the making, not close to being up to Ka Ying's level.

I'd be happy with $1.90 on race day, so I'd prepare to wait for acceptances.

Disagree. $2.10 is ridiculously short.
While there is no doubt he is the world's greatest sprinter at present, KYR would also have to do what the Kiwi-breds failed to do in HK at the weekend ...adapt quickly to a new environment...has he travelled outside HK? (I've honestly not followed his career record that closely.)

Willing to change my mind if his connections bring him to NSW in plenty of time (unlike Crocetti, EV and Mr B), but when long-distance travel is involved there's always that niggling doubt (at least in the mind of Maxi LOL).

How can you possibly comment on him if you haven't been following his career that closely?

I know for one thing David Hayes knows how to travel horses internationally...and I am sure if he comes to Oz he will be bloody hard to beat.

When it’s an opportunity of a lifetime and everything is paid it would be hard to say no.
