Insider 5,254 Report post Posted March 23 Well, put another way I haven't owned a Harness Horse for 50+ years however a baby trotter of ours went around at the Pukekohe Trials/workouts on Thursday. How much notice should we take out of what happens there, other than education? JJ Flash
Nelli 562 Report post Posted March 23 Congrats for getting back in the game and having a share in a young trotter physically and mentally ready to be at the workouts as a 2yo. As a long time owner of trotters, my advice at this stage of your baby 's career is to listen to your trainer. It all depends what stage of education your baby is at and what was the aim of the outing. First time at the workouts is a big step, especially if it is from a small stable. What you want to see is your novice learning the necessary race craft, gaining confidence and hopefully improving each time it fronts up. Idolmite 3,525 Report post Posted March 23 Many 2 year old trotters are extremely fractious, even when trainers feel/hope they are ready to actually go to the races. That's entirely from a watchers point of view, no direct knowledge or experience. Insider

I have had quite a few trotters over the years, and if that had been mine having it's first run as a 2YO, I would have been very happy with the result, went a bit wayward at one stage but stayed trotting and showed good speed to finish, the finishing results don't appear to match the video. 2YO trotters have to be very natural in their gait, and the less "gear" the better, the next test will come with more horses in the race, and whether she can cope with that. Insider 5,254 Report post Posted April 11 Suttle is her name. Super happy with how she went in the 2 year old trial at Alexandra Park tonight. Her first race start is next Thursday. Hopefully my sparing partners over on the Galloping thread will follow what Joan's baby trotter will do. P.S. Joan bombed out of the picking competition last Saturday. She was Probably too worried about what Suttle might do tonight, stay down trotting etc
