If you had bothered to look, the Biden ban has little effect on current exploration. More alternative facts ?

This client alert provides a brief overview of President Biden’s recent decision to expand the ban on offshore oil and gas leasing, outlining its background, scope, and potential impact on the energy industry.

Key Takeaways:

  • President Biden has issued two Presidential Memoranda banning new offshore oil and gas leases across extensive areas of the U.S. coastline.
  • The ban covers over 625 million acres, including the entire Atlantic and Pacific coastlines, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and parts of Alaska's Northern Bering Sea.
  • This action is the largest withdrawal of offshore areas from oil and gas leasing in U.S. history.
  • Existing leases are not affected by this ban.
  • President-elect Donald Trump indicated he will move quickly to revoke this ban.

Background:

On January 6, 2025, President Biden invoked Section 12(a) of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) to take an executive action prohibiting new oil and gas leases in vast offshore areas. President Biden cited the environmental and economic risks associated with offshore drilling, particularly the threat to coastal communities, marine ecosystems, and local economies reliant on fishing, tourism, and recreation. This action builds on previous withdrawals, including prior protection of portions of the Northern Bering Sea and the Beaufort Sea in the U.S. Arctic Ocean.

Scope of the Drilling Ban:

The ban covers more than 625 million acres, representing the largest withdrawal in U.S. history. The affected areas include:

  • The entire U.S. East Coast, from Canada to the southern tip of Florida, and the eastern Gulf of Mexico, totaling approximately 334 million acres.
  • Nearly 250 million acres off the West Coast, encompassing the coastlines of California, Oregon, and Washington.
  • An additional 44 million acres in Alaska's Northern Bering Sea, known as the Northern Bering Sea Climate Resilience Area.

Impact on the Industry:

While the ban significantly limits future oil and gas development in U.S. federal waters, it is important to note that existing leases remain unaffected. The ban will likely have a limited impact on current oil and gas production, as nearly all production occurs in the Western and Central Gulf of Mexico, which is not affected by the ban. Additionally, industry activity in the newly withdrawn areas has historically been minimal. However, the ban could hinder companies from developing new offshore oil and gas resources in the future. Notably, over 80% of 12 million acres already leased in this region remain untapped, indicating significant potential for continued production within existing lease areas. The administration emphasizes that U.S. oil production from federal lands and waters reached an all-time high in 2024, suggesting that the newly restricted areas have limited potential for fossil fuels and that their development would pose significant environmental risks.

The Trump administration indicated it will attempt to revoke this ban at the beginning of his administration, however, this reversal will likely face legal and procedural hurdles.

Hokey your hero had 1461 days as President in that time he had 532 days holiday he is very sharp; it took him 1447 days to invoke Section 12 (a).

Thats what makes you and Mitey proud of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

This from a thinking American…..👏

Absolutely, because what could be more liberating than living in a society where you're either blindly loyal to Elon Musk and Trump or you're shown the door? After all, critical thought, healthy debate, and constructive criticism are so overrated. Let's just put those who stand up to tyranny in prison. Let's let the wealthy few and corporations tell the sheep what to think and believe. In a land where freedom is just a word. And those who died in wars to give the right to take those freedoms away—sounds like a dream country come true, right?"
Fact check my own sarcastic response; Trump and Fake News: Trump has indeed made numerous statements attacking the media, often referring to them as "fake news." While he has expressed disdain for the media, there isn't a direct statement where he explicitly says he wants to put journalists in prison for reporting "fake news." However, his rhetoric has certainly been hostile towards the press.
Withholding Federal Funds: Trump has threatened to withhold federal funds from states that do not align with his policies. For instance, he has threatened to withhold disaster relief funds from states like California during wildfires, citing disagreements with state policies.
Loyalty to Trump: Trump has been known to value loyalty highly. Reports indicate that he has conducted loyalty tests and has emphasized the importance of personal loyalty to him over other qualifications.
Support Despite Interests: Many of Trump's followers continue to support him despite policies that might not align with their personal interests. This phenomenon can be attributed to various psychological and social factors, including a strong sense of loyalty, belief in his rhetoric, and distrust of opposing viewpoints.

It makes not one bit of difference what Trump does, in less than four years he will be gone and  the World  will probably be no different, he made a fool of himself by even attending church, the conflict in Ukraine still goes on, after this term maybe America can move forward, putting Tarrifs on increases living cost, siezing land  from others is dillousional, for all that sometimes he can be rather entertaining.despite being a embarrassment.

You're the world's #2 clown - Trump being #1. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times; l think Biden is a crook and a fool and a completely unsatisfactory leader of the free world. But just because l think Trump is a crook and a fool, and irrefutably an out-of-control narcissist, doesn't mean l support Biden (or Harris for that matter). My line has always been that if Trump and Biden are/were the best two people the American political system can dredge up to run for President, then America - and therefore effectively the world - is in deep, deep trouble.

As for you, how long have you been a member of Race Cafe? And you haven't even learned how to "quote" yet?

Yep, that’s where the redneck morons go to hear their saviour spouting his lies ( see above ) to sycophantic cretins like Hannity and co.

CNN are going to more digital, streaming and subscriber based platforms where more and more people are getting their news.

I'm surprised Fox News is allowed to call themselves that in all honesty. It's an opinion based channel, not a news channel - and not even a broad-based opinion at that. It's really just the Trump Opinion Channel On Behalf Of And Under The Sole Instruction Of The Kingdom Of The Dumb Arse Donald; The TOCOBOAUTSIOTKOTDAD, or SIKO DAD for short 🤣

Talk about MORONS.

How many subscribers does CNN have?
This is what the flogs watch with all their mates.

As of December 2023, CNN had 68,974,000 television households as subscribers in the US According to Nielsen, down from 80 million in March 2021.

Given CNN launched streaming a few years ago and  was a complete disaster , it'll be more like less and less not more and more regarding CNN

With all their current staff lay-offs- court payouts CNN  should switch to channels to Comedy Central and will become a instant hit

The good news continues and Trump must be pissing himself with laughter .

CNN bloodbath begins tomorrow with hundreds on the chopping block
CNN has started laying off the first of what is set to be hundreds of staffers as mainstream media begins to cut jobs with Donald Trump returning to the White House. What's more, the struggling cable network has plans to do major surgery on its TV lineup, attempt to expand digital subscribers and move production to its Atlanta home base. The layoffs were initially reported in November and follow about 100 cuts the network made over the summer. At least one big name producer has reportedly learned they're out of a job on Wednesday, with many more set to be told on Thursday, Status reported. Many shows are also rumored to be moving from New York and Washington to Atlanta, where production costs are cheaper, according to CNBC.

And true to form Hoki ignores the truth and searches the net for anything-anyone that fits his agenda and spreads hate to anyone who disagrees with his  ( SAD )  opinion which is a typical leftist last ditch effort - TRUMP WON - get over it and move on because we re going to take the piss outa you for the next 4 years

Yet still ignores the truth - sad state of a good man

On a side note  Gavin Newsom kisses the Dons ass today by thanking him for being there to help California despite the left screw  ups and refusing help in the past - typical Dem and politician

Trump won..yes we know that. No legislating for the millions of dumb Americans who voted for him and think they will be better off.

California contributes hugely to the Government coffers. There should be no question that they get the appropriate funding they need.

Of course, with this clown it is all about retribution and politicization of every event. 🤡

The yanks are lucky it will be law that there are only two genders Male and Female.

Men will not be allowed to compete against women in sports.

How long will it be before NZ adopts these laws?

Crikey, if that happens, how will it impact on advances in the Racing sector?

It was great to see Donald J Trump give WEF and UN a decent old fashioned Rogering at Davos this morning.

WEF need to be disbanded as it's full of failures.

You do know Schwab's wife's family history, don't you?

If not look up "Stoll" in PPNZ and learn who controls the "Mis" Information feed to the masses and the purse strings and his family's connections as Minister of War/ War Minister ( that's both in Newspapers and under Books looking up his family surname)

It started with Town Hall meetings and Theatre and then the Talkies and Television and now we have them down our throats in our every move with there Propaganda.

Now about those Submarine contracts, note the spin on those and who is really behind having them and making money just like at Hog Island - guess whose name is all over the place there?

Gates and Schwab families were linked in the Haymarket Wheat Price hiking back in the late 1800's/ Early 1900's.

His relations are everywhere and his father Eugen is mentioned in Education documents from recall in Parliamentary papers section.

Be mindful the current one in charge also has links to Munitions with a Brand of Gun named after their family.

Others named in articles about WEF this week are also worthwhile of looking up their families surnames in PPNZ.

One at least is tied back to Cynaide in the 1800's, another's family was linked to Court cases of interest.

Whilst WEF may be relatively newly known to the average NZ person, we grew up with knowledge of is leader back in the 1970's and how it wouldn't end well for Society under his thumb.

For those who may not know, Musk's natural father's side was involved in an attempt to fly from New York to Paris and the plane ran out of fuel and landed in the Indian Ocean and they were rescued by a Dutch Sailing vessel crew
