Gruff 2,927 Report post Posted October 30 why is Shaun Johnson still playing? surely by now we have found a replacement ,there is no point lining up a player who is there to have fun in such a serious role...im going tonga, WRONG coach who loves money and typical of nz league jobs for the boys....only shining light our class wingers Alf Riston
Idolmite 3,154 Report post Posted October 30 He is playing because all of those named ahead of him - Johnson wasn't even named in the original squad actually - either pulled out themselves or their club pulled them out, either due to injury, requiring surgery, or both. Jahrome Hughes was the first choice halfback and fully intended playing, but had to withdraw after picking up an injury in the Grand Final. Johnson answered an SOS. He wasn't the second choice either, although l cannot remember now who was. Gruff
Gruff 2,927 Report post Posted October 30 sounded like stacey was hounding the show pony from his own admission Mites,no depth in NZ league probably attributed from the ground up.....warriors will have the distinction of the only club never to win the NRL Alf Riston

With Shaun Johnson having officially retired, and realising Kiwi-eligible half-backs were dropping like flies, it made sense that Stacey Jones gave him a call to see if he would be prepared to play if Jahrome Hughes were to pull out as well, n0? I mean, if he was prepared to plug a hole he needed to maintain fitness for this series, n0? Otherwise you'd be slagging off at both of the SJ's, one for not thinking ahead and the other for turning up semi-fit. I get the distinct impression you're not happy unless you're running somebody down Gruff. Check your last 5,000 posts. The depth of talent from NZ isn't really the problem. The NRL season is so big, followed by State of Origin, that international Rugby League is far down the order of priorities - especially with the scheduling - that many first choice players are just not available when these games are played. In saying that, the NRL season is a far better watch than a Super Rugby season, or whatever Rugby has these days. With Rugby, the international game is the only thing that really matters, and for many the only thing that a lot of people still bother with Rugby-wise. With League, it's almost an afterthought. And with Australia basically controlling the game, certainly in this part of the world, that's never going to change. Uriah Heap 499 Report post Posted October 31 Hard to get that interested in International Rugby League and much prefer NRL. In regard to Rugby Union, NZ Derby Super Rugby games still get good ratings on TV, so people are continuing to watch those.
