John winning the Trotters Grand Final too that night Charlie . Driving for the injured Charlie Hunter. Great patient drive by John in this video . Got back a bit , but what a well timed run to win it well . Charlie Hunter was back in the bike to Win the Miracle Mile in Sydney with Quinney not long after this as well for another famous win . Wow ! Look at the amount of cars parked out the back , and in the in-field during video. Could get good crowd in those days. Charlie E 244 Report post Posted October 31 I loved Reg too just an awesome commentator . Charlie Hunter was a legend for sure . When I look back its amazing what these guys have achieved in Harness Racing . Its a shame now going to Alex Park its a ghost town with apartments everywhere . With the poor numbers of horses in the North as well its so sad what this venue has turned into

He might be winning this years Nz Cup as a Trainer very soon as well. One of the greatest Trainers of all time. Very much a humble and quiet acheiver. Top class! Have never seen an episode with so many great horses in it before. was outstanding viewing. Greg is 10/10 presenter. And they did an article with Barry's training Partner Scott Phelan and Merlin. He sure is doing an amazing job and it was good to hear his thoughts and aspirations. Man . they nearly even convinced me they could beat LEAP TO FAME . Alf Riston 1,969 Report post Posted October 31 It's been great seeing you guys discuss a lot of drivers and horses from days gone by - lots of fond memories... Must try and track down a replay of The Box Seat and agree on Greg being top notch. I was a Sheldon fan too - pity he moved away from the screen. I agree Sheldon was an excellent presenter so professional and interesting with his knowledge and comments . I just realized as well he isn't driving in the amateur races anymore

I think back with the likes of Young Quinn , Robalan , Hi Foyle , Master Dean , Kotare Legend , Captain Harcourt , Delightful Lady and others , there wasn't really a standout any one of many horses could win because it was so even . That interdominion final I posted with Young Quinn winning , if Hi Foyle had got out earlier he may have won and Roy Purdon always said he was the best horse he had trained , but the horse had issues so often wasn't racing at 100 %
Alf Riston 1,969 Report post Posted October 31 This still ranks as my favourite ever Interdominion series, and what a quality field the final was. My old mate Ben (in the hands of Graham Reaks) running a solid fifth against some all time greats. Classic race and what a run by Armalight as well she was a great mare and had no luck in that race Alf Riston

Still One my favourites as well as the first of a few have been lucky enough to of attended, and is just something about International Competition that makes it more exhilirating, a bit like A World Cup in other sports or something. I think the Interdominion Champion list is chock full of the greatest runners of Aus and NZ competition , and along with the amazing NZ Cup winners list and the Miracle Mile winners list in Aus, you have ALL the Harness Racing Star horses of All Time , and quite an impressive horseperson list too. The thing with LEAP TO FAME is he might be the first Horse to WIN All 3 of those Top Tier Races when he steps out Addington soon. A real piece of history in the making. The QLDer Leap To Fame currently being the Interdominion and Miracle Mile title's holder at the moment. can he get the Grand Slam Trifecta? go get em' Larry Gammalite and Young Quinn shown on this thread in video winning Interdom Grand Finals , but both missed in the NZ Cup with 2 attempts each. The superstar Nz champ Lazarus just missing the Big 3, with 2 NZ Cups and an Interdom win, missed out getting a Miracle Mile with a 3rd and 7th in that Classic race. Charlie E 244 Report post Posted October 31 I think Larry might do it PS . I heard somewhere they were offering $7 I think for the 3 races . I think this year with the cup and the undercard , they will be the strongest fields they have had for many years . I am hoping Ohoka Connor is in the free for all , because would love to see him up against the other top horses to prove how good he is , just hoping he isn't a run short missing those standing start races . Regardless we are in for some good racing Pure Steel

None of this bullshit we have to endure listening to today e.g ribbon of light ,the chief, right on the lollie etc etc. So predictable, so boring. The commentators those days with no TV for punters to watch were true professionals. Fabulous drive in that by the winner , the late Denis Nyhan with a special there. Hard to believe that is Half a Century since that wonderful moment next week.? 50 years of NZ Cup Champions been and gone since. crazy thinking about it lol. and Leap To Fame about to join them. Robalan getting some good NZ Cup placings in other years as well in 5 attempts in the great race. A wonderful horse .
