We're Doomed 5,704 Report post Posted September 5, 2024 Probably not much time for questions at the end if they only allow 2 hours. I wonder if people are invited to linger for drinks and networking? I love the bit about "the most exciting summer racing carnival in NZ's racing history." I wonder how they will measure that? I presume the season just gone was the second most exciting summer in NZ racing history. I found it quite exciting when the likes of Grey Way, Show Gate. La Mer, Sunline, Bonecrusher and Prince Majestic were racing. Back when 3yos used to race in WFA races, when the Wgtn Cup and the Easter were Group 1s. Although if I'm being honest, I remember thinking to myself back in the late 80's "If only we had a slot race, then the racing world would be perfect." dock leaf, Pam Robson, Pak Star and 2 others 1

My Dear Friend DOOMED, I love the horses that you choose. I remember them all, but I don't remember last year's Auckland Cup winner. Was there one? Interestingly, I was going to add that I couldn't actually recall who last year's top horses were but I didn't think anyone would believe me. I think one of the problems is that for several years now hardly any of the top 3yos have gone on with it in following seasons. All of the horses I mentioned above raced for several seasons so we got to know them well. And perhaps more importantly they raced in fields of considerable depth so we all admired them for their achievements. I am hopeful Crocetti might go on with it this season and the Oaks winner looked promising. I can't remember who won the Derby. So perhaps we might be in for the most exciting season ever in the history of NZ racing. I won't hold my breath though. gubellini 4,483 Report post Posted September 5, 2024 As far as I am concerned these Road Shows will be a non event. You had to register with NZTR by August 21 to attend. You had to submit any questions you wanted to ask by that date. I haven't registered. My nearest meeting is at Matamata. If I turn up will I be refused entry? Will I be able to ask questions from the floor? Obviously the peripatetic duo will be eager to answer the patsy questions but will have consigned the hard questions to the too hard basket. I was trying to think of the top male stayer and nothing came to mind. Of course I do remember now it was a filly. I'm not sure that it is very nice to call someone elderly and slightly demented "thick'. I certainly wouldn't. Ethereal 41 Report post Posted September 15, 2024 Hastings on Friday delivered as a sermon, various interesting statistics . Turnover, starters per race by region, horse fatalities synthetic v grass-NZ v overseas, foal crop by season ,etc. A broadcast from the throne rather than an attempt to connect with racing industry . Time slot for questions minimal . Clearly NZTR concerned what happens when Entains 5 year funding injection ends but in the meantime there's quite a bit of cash sloshing around. Stakes heading in right direction but Entain appear to be calling the shots now. Sifting through the name dropping and jargon ( 'Product'(horse racing)'Right-Sizing'-(closing tracks),'Moving the Dial' etc, etc), there will continue to be a concentration of resources at metro venues at expense of regions with reliance on trickle down from elite rather than restoring the grassroots .Worth attending and good on NZTR for getting out and about but a missed opportunity . NZTR on one hand don't appear at all interested in on course attendance, and yet they appear to love the big high profile days, even if they aren't cost effective. And Entain don't appear to be structuring things to maximise turnover, which I expected would have been their priority. I do get easily confused these days, but I do find everything quite strange to be honest. Pam Robson
