Addington Drone

Recommended Posts

They've been using the drone a bit at Albion Park, but from a better angle behind the field so you can still see the colours. Not a huge fan of the Addington angle, although I don't mind it. The problem arises when they use it too much. It creates a good view of the field settling or later in the race horses pushing out, but it can break up the flow and be a little distracting too. Undecided.

Looks like ants racing…. Very hard to figure out where the horse you backed is…. Maybe best used in post race preview…….

I reckon it could be beneficial too in post-race analysis, as it'd be good for spotting anything blocked or checked in the running. Other sports have tried using it too, but by and large everybody seems to play with their new toy too much to begin with, because they can. Eventually they realise keeping it simple works best. At the start is okay, but switching back and forth later in the race is certainly rather annoying.

Don't like the drone myself and helmet cam for that matter

I like limited use of helmet cams, brings you closer to the action.  Should only be used for no more than 10 seconds though as it doesn’t give you a good idea of how the race is going.

Its bloody ridiculous.

If you gave viewers two channels to look at, one for drones and other shit camera angles, and another for just the basic camera that where we can see the whole race unfold with no camera switching, if 100 people were watching, 99 punters would be on the basic version wanting an uninterrupted view of where their betting dollar was going and one person would be watching the drones but only because they didn't know how to switch channels.

The drone view of standing starts really show how shambolic they are.

Who wants to have a bet when a certain number of the horses are either turning in or a couple of lengths behind - disgraceful - bring back LAMB - I didn't think anyone could be worse than Lamb but there you go I am proven wrong again.

Are there any rules about how these races are meant to be started or is it a just start them as you see fit attitude
