Very Subjective for Sure but at 'face value for mine

Stephen Marsh

Chris Wood

Stephen Ralph

Graeme Rogersen

Lance Sullivan..... solely because each one is approachable  straight forward and are good Kiwis  ...

Not suggesting others are inferior but may need to step up their ' Public Profile" for mine people within this Industry are fantastic , the jockeys need to become more ' connective as players do in rugby and league....just saying

Not sure I'm a good trainer but communication is pretty good.

1. Have a look at their strike rate.

2 Honesty ie yeah I'll win a couple with it to maybe a win to its no good through to Yah we got a GROUP wining horse here, OR it needs time BUT I'll keep it in work trainer thinking it well help              their cash flow!

3  number of owners they have, image 10 horses in work with 6 owners the trainer could easily get 60 or more phone calls over a couple of day  all asking the same questions THE switched on        trainers use weekly/twice weekly emails. And makes race day chit chat day. Our guy makes a point of trying to phone all of us once every 3 weeks and encourages us to share information. TO      those owners who go on and on he has be known to say bit busy at the moment Ill ring you back, Say Sunday about 5;30am owners soon get the message

JOCKEYS One of the reasons jockeys are reluctant to talk to owners apart from post races is they  are constantly being watch by stipes who suffer from small D syndrome simply trying to catch jockeys for tipping out horses to big punters remember poor James Mac

I’m looking for a trainer in the north island. I want good communication. Any suggestions?

Peter Didham at Awapuni is pretty good. He uses a voice messaging service via email. I usually get weekly updates when close to racing and always get a post race update the day after letting you know how they pulled up, how they ate etc.

Both are doing super well but for Te Akau the costs will be through the roof is my guess, so you will just about need a future Open Class/ Group class horse or it wont be there long or you will have to take out an OD. Having said that I very much doubt that you could even get in there. [Keep us informed on that one]

Robbie, though is a different kettle of fish I am guessing. Looking from the outside in, he's going super and would probably take your horse [assuming that you have one] and be very communicative.

There are plenty of others though.

I don't know who you are, but if you are starting out, go with someone a lot smaller, Aaron for example or anyone else of a similar size. Learn the ropes and enjoy it because the game isn't easy as an owner.

I agree with Insiders comments about going a lot smaller. We have a couple of horses at New Plymouth with Taffy Hina. Genuine guy who rides all his own work and very reasonable on costs. Debbie Harris at NP is the same. I think Aaron does a lot of the work himself also.....why not give us a quick summary Aaron?

There is two sides to this. The trainer might not like your horse. Another might turn you down because of a number of owners in the group.

The so called top trainers can be picky. But if you are a toppy______

Then if your horse doesn't perform it will get sacked ,unless you are very important to the trainer

Elvis, please tell us the breeding of your horse, age etc and I will be in a better position to advise who I think would be the most suitable.

Or are you looking to join a North Island stable as a syndicate member?

Not new to being owner. Have shares with Te Akau in group one horses. Just love the way they communicate and go about there business. Also have shares in horses with smaller stables too.  Robbie might be suitable as I just love the way he gets average bred horses doing good things. I have had horses with trainers who just fell way short of my expectations but I know no one is perfect and we could pick faults in anybody all day long if we choose too. Thanks for the comments and thoughts. Horse is by Embellish rising two year old filly. We own outright ourselves. I guess its a personal thing too. Gotta get on with the trainer but I love knowing whats happening and how its going otherwise whats the point of owning.

E, send Pikey an email. The care is great as is the comms with regular videos. The managing of the horse is 'in-horse as is stakes payouts.

Tony is a top bloke and Chris McNab foreman is too. Very clean place and happy horses.

But Patterson going great guns too

Thanks for the update Elvis. Congratulations on your successes, particularly the G1’s. That’s more than I’ve had although I probably had 60 or 70 wins from Invercargill to Hobart and everywhere in between!
Anyway I think that you know what you are doing (although luck plays a huge part) so go with your gut feeling. I can comment on Tony Pike mentioned by Nerula. He is top class as alluded to.
Why wouldn’t you go back to  Mark Walker given your Group One horse or won’t they train for individuals?
In due course tell us who you have chosen and good luck.
Liz
