Just wondered whether a horse has ever won either Guineas before without a start on grass.  Further to Insiders point some of our trainers do seem to have a set against AWTs.

And I agree why wouldn't you give them a lead up over 1400 about 3 weeks out before a tough mile?  Though not for me to Q Aiden O'B :)

He's still got it. Good to have a special talent. I hope CT didn't get up in the middle of the night to watch it.

Interesting that the winner came through an AWT preparation, but I assume that was largely to avoid the wet tracks. In NZ they try to force trainers to run on the AWT when there are good turf tracks available.

The hot pot went the opposite route and didn't race at all, which I suppose is the British way. I think the race was only worth about $NZ1m. In Aussie they would race in several $1m races in preparation for a race like that.,

I love all of these different racecourse layouts in England.

Newmarket today - straight mile, not a full circuit

Epsom - horseshoe type track, again not a full circuit

Royal Ascot - a bit of both

You might love this too  then John.

Interesting to note this promotional video focusses on Racing & a Family environment.

Most of the NZ promotional videos have a focus on Partying & Fashion with a 'bit of Racing' thrown in .......🥴

There wouldn't be many more versatile tracks than Longchamps. I was there in the mid 1996 when Helissio won  the Arc. A thoroughly unique experience.

"The Longchamp Racecourse (French: Hippodrome de Longchamp) is a 57 hectare horse-racing facility located on the Route des Tribunes at the Bois de Boulogne in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. It is used for flat racing and is noted for its variety of interlaced tracks and a famous hill that provides a real challenge to competing thoroughbreds. It has several racetracks varying from 1,000 to 4,000 metres in length, with 46 different starting posts."

Stupid bloody French. Do they have any idea how much money they could make if they sold most of that off for housing and just kept the bare minimum for one little track?

Max is staggered by the fact that he has survived two weeks of SNM's 'Losers Get Laid ' Comp without any assistance from punting experts.
But when things get desperate, there's no doubt to whom Max will turn when the Jokers are to be played. Are you hearin' me, CeeTee?

Well well well, what an expensive 24 hours it’s been.

Truth be told I was in my best friend’s spa pool drinking sparkling at the time of the race and have only just seen the replay now.

The horse went about as good as I’m feeling after several blue Hawaii cocktails last night. 🤮

And to rub salt into the wound my iPhone also died in the spa along with City Of Troy’s hopes 🤪

Time for a long spell for me after my first loss in over a year.

Lookin forward to leaving this cool Melbourne weather behind, no?

Quick comment from me as I'll do the more detailed review in my main thread.

Yes and no.

As to the diversity of racecourses, it's what people from some other racing jurisdictions don't get about English, French and Irish racing. American racing is tedious though in fairness the tracks aren't all exactly the same. We have a saying "horses for courses" and one of my key areas of form study is track form or form on tracks going the same way. Some horses love going left-handed, some love going right-handed and some horses have a particular affinity for a particular track and can be 20 lbs better there than anywhere else.

The French tracks, especially the provincial ones, can be bewildering - they can run trotting, flat, steeplechase and cross-country across different configurations. Try to find a French cross-country race from somewhere like a Pornichet or a Strasbourg.

Yes, it is a rather unfortunate photo. I can honestly say I don't think I have ever seem anything like that on here before.

5 successful happily married men enjoying a drink together in the hot tub after so many years.

1 from Norway, 2 from NZ & 2 from Australia.

Sounds to me like you’ve lived a pretty sheltered life if you find that unfortunate.

I sincerely hope you can overcome your bitter and twisted life and find happiness one day.

Just remember, we only get one shot at this so better to be kind and happy than bitter and twisted.

All the best 😀
