weasel57 got a reaction from Ragamuffin in Aalaalune not happy
Anyone with half a racing brain can see that Aalalune has been poorly placed and over-raced ever since she surprised everyone by placing in a Grp 1 as a 2yo. Rogie had dollar signs coming out of his eyes and the horse got wrecked as a result of impatience to get more black type and 3yo glory....but why so early in the Spring? Beaten in a maiden sprint at Ruakaka, straight into the Tarzino early Spring with a horse whose racing style screamed for more ground and wetter tracks and just a bit of time to grow into herself. She is a shadow of what she might have been if they'd just waited for the autumn of her 3yo season.
Even now, reckon she'd go alright in Victoria over 2000m+ in the autumn/winter starting with country tracks and maybe a Patrick Payne-type of trainer/ Class is permanent -she's got a motor annd a heart - but the change of handling and environment is what's required, if it aint too late.
Just my opinion.

weasel57 reacted to Cooper in Aalaalune not happy
Couldn’t help but feeling sad watching Aalaalune going around again today at Ellerslie . Sure isn’t the same horse since it left Jacob McKays. I wish they would give it back to him to train where he gave it the TLC it obviously loved. Some horses just don’t like being in big training establishments.

weasel57 got a reaction from Memphis2 in M Cup, what do ya reckon
I'm no expert but I think VE is a big chance Tuesday. Classy multiple Grp 1 winner,, well weighted, in-form, handles all tracks (rain no problem) and has the 'will to win' written all over her, if you watch the Caulfield Cup replay the last 50m she had every right to cough it up but dug deep. Could she possibly be another Maybe Diva in the making? Capable of winning over 1600m-2000m at wfa early in a prep and just gets better and better.. The thing I like most aout her is the ability to put in a very fast 200m sectional -that destructive 'turn of foot' that we saw in the CC. If she can 'go to sleep'/ switch off in the first 2400m of the Melbourne Cup ,she could brain 'em! If she pulls her head off, forget about it!

weasel57 reacted to Nukkledragga in M Cup, what do ya reckon
Have just done a quick tally of weights versus points( ignoring sex and age) compared to AVD at the top ,and sir dragonet comes out way above the rest followed by russian camelot, warning and tiger moth ,and then AVD and VE are level pegging BUT VE is a mare and the russian and tiger NH3yos and would normally get allowances, so will have to be very good indeed on cup day.So sir dragonet ,warning,AVD are top 3 all things being equal, if only it was that simple.

It must be added that VE is the best at WFA in OZ but has been aimed at the big cups ( the cox plate on that wet track would have been at her mercy) now who would second guess Waller .VE is the best local by a margin but some of the imports are carrying no weight ,but not that much less ( as NH3yos versus VE at WFA) than they will versus VE in the cup so she is fairly weighted against AVD at the top and others at the bottom but will need to be on top of her game.Last year vow and declare was rated 114 or 115 but carried up to 2kg less than other similarly rated horses so the locals can win with the right weight, VE can win but a little rain would be a boost to her chances and they will all need a large slice of luck

Not wrong. Frankel would never beat Secretariat.

weasel57 got a reaction from Gruff in 2020 Cox Plate field.....
Have to say this year's Cox Plate is underwhelming. Would have preferred to see Verry Ellegant tackle this race rather than Caulfield Cup. Her turn of foot and ability to make ground while cornering would have been dynamite at MV.

weasel57 got a reaction from Breeder in Bowman wins the Caulfield Cup
how about giving some credit to VE for that incredible turn of foot to get to the front and sheer guts to hold out a big strong challenger

weasel57 reacted to Dissident in Rosie Myers - Trials Abandoned!
Kellys last update a few days ago
"An update on Rosie..
Not conscious yet but making some progress. Doctors took her breathing tube out yesterday afternoon which is good. Her breathing became extremely difficult, was touch and go re having to put it back in. Was hard to watch and I wouldn’t have thought anyone could sustain that sort of effort.. super stoked to get a text from Will first thing to say she’d made it through night unassisted and was much more comfortable💪😍#Legend
She’s got this, toughest little person I know💓"

weasel57 reacted to henry30 in Great Northern Steeplechase
Watched the race and saw the idiot on the track but did anyone else spot the stray golf ball almost hit the horses and riders on the first round. About 2min13sec into the race...could have been a bloody disaster.

weasel57 reacted to scooby3051 in Melbourne Cup Carnival 2020
One things for sure is she will get in again sadly...can only hope the USA sees sense finally...A half sane JB is much better than a loonie DT...JMO.

weasel57 reacted to pogo(aus) in Jason Collett
all great tactical rides too , doubtful any one else could have steered those four winners home.
any young jock aspiring to great heights only needs to look at his winning ride on the autumn sun in the caulfield guineas
JMAC , great jockey, up there with the best ever to come from NZ IMHO.

weasel57 got a reaction from Huey in Rosie Myers - Trials Abandoned!
yes, and all of them display more personal courage (not to mention understanding, affection for and appreciation of horses), than the 'animal welfare' loonies

weasel57 reacted to Berri in Why can't they be professional and care?
Decided to see the odd for the Arc this evening in France. Has a squizz at Stradivarius. Saw they had him as a 4 year old gelding. Then looked at Enable...guess what?...she's also a 4yo gelding. No sire, no dam. no anything!!! Come on TAB. This is only the best championship race in Europe. Why isn't there anyone who cares enough to get this stuff right? It's the most basic of basic. Aren't we trying to promote betting?
