  2. Yes Ted..... Pete was a great person. Full of life, wonderful ideas and so knowledgeable in all things Law and Equine. He trained many very good gallopers. A very kind man to our family and his friends. Sire of The Flight of The Concords , duo member Bret. We had many happy days with Pete at the Levin Training track and his favourite NZ venue Trentham. I wish I had videoed some of The Levin early morning banter between Grant Searle, Lee, Trevor Bau, Paddy and Sylvia Kay and Pete. Thoughts to his family and friends.
  3. Phil and Catherine Brown / Ken an Bev/ Tony and Mary Enting all had to fly from Hastings to a pathetic Auckland shed 10 Flights and traffic jams. And all the other finalists....if they chose to attend at Shed 10. Champion 2 Year Old. I don't know the winner but if is Tokyo Tycoon they were all in the Hawkes Bay last night after his win. Say a syndicate of 40 people. Why fly to Auckland to spend big dollars on accommodation and booze when the awards were on your doorstep ?
  4. Why was this Group One celebration ever scheduled for SHED 10 in Auckland ? All the major players and great people were at Hastings yesterday. Day 0ne of their carnival. And the dinner could have been there to help the region . Unbelievable that people would have to arrange flights back to Auckland. And why is it Not being broadcast live on a ch 62 / 63 like we used to see. ?
  5. When/ if Labour loose in October who will National have as our Racing Minister ? David Bennett is listed as their spokesman . He has indicated he is not seeking reelection .
  6. Paul. You've obviously been concentrating so hard on the Aussie form for the Saturday Race Cafe comps , that you've missed the VRC Suspended Riders list. You and Sayer going bloody well ! You will need a big bank when you meet Jim and me !! Cheers and Happy fathers Day.
  7. KIRRAMA AND GUBELLINI improve 4 Rating points. From last week. Thanks LJ Shannon and Magic Alan 1234. for today's match. Cheers John for your magic in put to our Race Cafe .

  9. Over 5 decades Waipa the iconic Te Awamutu track has thrown up lots of Group winners. Waipa is The reverse Cox Plate course. Waipa requires balance and often ( according to Roger Lang * , Lance O, and Alan Jones, Rob Prescott and GK who I speak with ) a horse who can change legs. *dead Race, breath balance and sprint. Battle Heights who won the 1973 Sydney Cup and a Cox Plate ? 1974 won The Trevor Gillock Hdcp at Waipa over 1100m when he was 9. So the form reference is there for today's Trial performers from Waipa. Best male hope to get black type from todays trials. Heat 28 Adam I Am.
  10. Yes . Dragon Tiger 2003. On Wellington Cup Day. I think a close relation of Ponderosa's was first on the scene of the fall with my brother. They thought she was dead.
  11. Another Fantastic mile stone for a wonderful human being. Great jockey. Thanks for all the wins on my brother's horses, especially Addictive Habit, whose stable name was also Cody.

  13. Sir Stodge. The match race tomorrow Race 4 from York , NZ time @2:35 am is on our Trackside CH 2. Four starters. But no first pool by our nervous TAB. I would have thought the Fixed odds on Paddington were 10 % overs. $1:50. ? It should be a procession. Any late thoughts ?
  14. The Provincial Challenge is a dated format .It needs to be binned. Trashed. It worked well for a few years. Commentators, Punters ,breeders ,jockeys, had to adjust their thinking. The Racing Colours we knew for our favourite stables and our own revered owners colours transposed to Rugby Unions . Stupid. Photos on the wall with Canterbury colours when their horse won and was trained in Cambridge. ? The rugby province NPC thing .Is dead. Look at Yesterday's R7 Inter Winner . Winner Shelbyrockin. If you looked for her previous race colours ( Shane Browns ) brown and white Kerry Hobbs has done an amazing job for New Plymouth and Taranaki racing. He is a great bloke. I wish him a wonderful retirement. Rev
  15. Aren't we so lucky to be able to revisit these amazing racing memories? And to have our very own Racing Historian, Jim ( Gubillini ) .. Brookby Song was a star. I was on course when Hit Parade was leading by a chain. In The Great Northern Steeples. My Dad, Jock had backed " Everytime " . When Hit Parade misjudged the last fence and fell, my pram shook. Everytime went on to win. Probably 1952.??? Was Every time trained by Bill Ford ? Maybe The same year as REV won the 1952 Auckland Cup.

  20. You are a good man, Ohaka and thanks for posting this. Joe Pride and his team will be so sad this evening. And for months to come. Thoughts to Big Parade and his equine spirit. I also think James McD was lucky not to go over the plastic rail when Golden Mile was going for a gap. with Big Parade on his outside.

  23. Thanks Jim for reminding us all on Race Cafe of Tayla' Mitchell's Great Grand father. Alf' McDonald. He was a great man and very astute. I first met Alf through Bob and Gloria Autridge. . He had a big black horse who looked like Game who used to enjoy a beer from a saucer in the post race meeting car park. I think he was called Captain Morgan. Congratulations to Ted McLachlan for his first rate mentoring and as Agent for Tayla's winning season.
  24. Tayla Mitchell survived her suspension to win by one win over Ms Kelsie Hannon to win the 2022 -2023 champion Apprentice . Indentured to her mother, Terresa McDonald, I am just so proud of her. Her Grandy ( Bruce )was a great mate of mine and taught me so many horse skills. Bruce moved from Gizzy and " broke in " yearlings on his Cambridge southern property. Bruce educated many yearlings who became champions of the Turf. McGinty was a fiery colt. Small, compact and very stroppy. But Bruce told the owners not to geld the son of One Pound Sterling That was so lucky for Barny McC and Keith H . and a young Jillo. Go well Tayla. Your Grand Dad will be having a ciggy and whiskey.
