  3. Thanks Jim. You have honoured The great man J H so well. John was an apprentice with Bill Ford when he was sent to Jock Somervell's pony club instruction.Matamata . To learn balance ,poise .He shorted his leathers to ride over their withers. But his greatest wins were on the flat gallopers you have noted.; great post here ; https://www.nzherald.co.nz/rotorua-daily-post/news/our-people-john-humphries/IVJRJFOCRTGRDMKWAOTHJ4FPRM/ ( Peter Tims, Toby Autridge gallopers

  6. Pakaraka ... Mr Brightside has been compared by his Trainers to their grand dad's Colin 's great one. Dulcify. And their mighty Better Loosen Up. David Hayes said this..October 2017... "These are great horses. Wonderful horses, but Winx is managing to do it year in and year out. Dulcify looked like being one of the greatest horses, not only to walk onto Lindsay Park [Hayes' training base] but was heading to be one of the superstars of Australian racing until he was killed during the running of the Melbourne Cup 10 days after his staggering Cox Plate win. Dulcify was working into the finish of the Melbourne Cup when he was badly galloped on from behind with vets unable to save him. "Again, the best horse I ever trained was Better Loosen Up who was a terrific racehorse. But he, like Dulcify, had his career cut short because he bowed a tendon," Hayes said. I don't bet four days out from a race but Mr Brightside's Cox Plate odds of 9 FF are good value. If there is a Japanese withdrawal he could start favourite.

  13. Trainer Chris Wood would be one of the best guys on Race Cafe. A terrific trainer. He would be able to explain the tie back procedure and "wind Opp ". Or ask your own vet or trainer.

  15. I visited the Ellerslie track reconstruction today. I had last been there in January this year where bull dozers and huge uclids and stones dominated the vast property. To my mind then, there was no possibility of a 2024 race meeting. However, today I walked some of the main straight and eyed the camber past the winning post. It, the camber past the winning post, looks the same as when I filmed Kirrama and Balmerino on super 8mm cameras. And years later I stood near Keith Haub in the supreme commentary box when Mc Ginty won the Air NZ Stakes ? I know nothing about the science behind the strathye track. Other than what Craig Baker has said on Track side. I would have bet $ 1000 to 1 against in January 23 that the Magic Millions meeting 2024 would run all races.. After my jaunt today at NZs Head Quarters, I think and hope that the probability is 75% . So good luck Craig Baker and your wonderful team. It is certainly achievable .
