  1. Our great friend and deaf as a plank Paddy died today .So many stories to tell. Sylvia got a winner at Otaki just this week. From their own home breed. Paddy always the planner with Sylvia. Won races all over the planet. Sylvia and Paddy Trained a horse called " That's Magic " for me and Lee, Kurt and Phil .He was by the useless sire Magic of Sydney. He won 3 races. somehow. Paddy gave me a stetson velvet Hat about 22 years ago. I cherish it. I will have a very quiet whiskey "Paddy Boy " AND play your song on Keyboard as promised when you get burned. Rev
  2. What about that gutless John fronting at Trentham today. A CEO ? The bloke on a $900K + salary who can not tell us how much the new TAB Platform actually cost.Really? I have emailed him a copy of the following. Some of you may have more to add to my email about the new "platform" ( where do they pluck these words from? It's a bloody bunch of numbers and algerisms). Email reads: Cheers Des for your very brave front last Sunday. After reading Bruce Sherwin's Informant opinion I would add my own: The disgraceful interview and attitude by John Allen at Trentham today Wellington Cup Day highlighted the Racing Board's head in the sand attititude to this $45 million Platform. ( Do we Know the TRUE Cost ?). Muted to start last year, John Allen enthused today that modifications would be happening. He looked like a man on steriods or a very high Caffine intake. A CEO ? NO ! The new site and all the promo reminds me of a 2019 Audio SUV with a 1973 Skoda 1.6 engine. My Points and questions are: a. Did the TAB look at the functional design of the HKJC racing website ? Designed and used by millions. Who were the website designers with Racing expertise from Australia, HKong and England that had input ? Was Paul Daley consulted ? Racenet ,Australia have so many instant clickable form, jockey, trainers links. The new TAB NZ site lacks information and speed. It is antiquated. Who from the TAB client base was asked to trial the website before it's delayed launching ? How many of your $40k a year turn over clients did you ask. How many clients were asked who have a weekly turnover of $20 ? b. Why isn't the new site directly linked to our new "I loveracing " website ? ( Breeding, Trainers details ,) c. The PDF format form references are packed with info. They are brilliant. Change of Stable/ owners/ barrier trials.Dam sire breeding. But they are 1985 tech stuff. We need the information on the click of a horses' name. Look at Racenet or The HKJC website ! d. There is no Trials information on the main site. e. There are no over head Race Track pics, circumference length of straight and winning barrier positions for each race. Direction of track. Barrier stats for distance. -- f. No direct audio link to Radio Track side. The one through the NZracing site is very poor quality. g. The launch did not include a scratching Page ! That was the high light for Allen's Trentham broadcast today. We are working on it !! h. The time delay is a major issue. Bruce in his Informant piece was about right.. today 9 seconds. Last night with Aussie Women's Tennis about 15 seconds. !! If you want Clients to bet In Play you go In Play ! i. Sports: I Can only appraise the Aussie Tennis. Where are the Player profiles ? Where are the Seed rankings? Where are their World rankings ? If this Platform cost 40 million I would expect to click on S Halep vs V Williams and get information to make a judgement. I shouldnt need to go to Aussietennis.com/profile. j. When will the new TAB site enable me to have a Multi with a horse at Te Rapa tomorrow into a Horse racing in HK tomorrow ? K. When will full commingling of all exotic bets ( Quins/ Trifectas/first fours ) happen with Hong Kong, Australia Singapore ? Des.....If I get on line tomorrow these are some of our " issues " these blokes must address. Revel Somervell

  4. The Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale 2019 after two days has been extraordinary. Their Live Coverage web site is Yearling focused, with huge screen back ground footage of the yearling in its own environment. The video footage of the lot in the ring focuses on the horse. It may encourage off site bidders. NOT on who is bidding. I truly appreciate Dave Ellis's sponsorship of the last 6 years of the Karaka Sales on line coverage. Will our Karaka yearling Sales next month 2019 match the investment into a vibrant Australian Racing environment ? 2018 was a record sale per Average sale For Gerry and GCMM and god knows what percentage increase will happen this year 2019. Steve Davis has unique auctioneering skills .He has the lowest" pass in rate "of any Thoroughbred auctioneer since 2014. Those stats are for Karaka, Gold Coast, South Africa. His voice modulation and pitch , verbal frequency, bullshit and knowledge and sheer charisma My vote for the best Auctioneer we have ever had. Steve Davis Peter Kelly, Jo Walls ,Rev Somervell Stu Hale rated 2233rd in Australasia. Rate your auctioneers here on this post . Rev
  5. Great list of some very handy Gallopers ! Thanks for that. Look at the 1999 winning jockey's weight.
  6. My recent experience in a Melbourne TAB appalled me. Virtual Racing. Dont let it happen here. Races with virtual Dogs and Horses. Eight starters per virtual race with pathetic names like " SunLined, FarLap, MainBrach, Makabedevil: Unsaintly: Think Bigger: Oaks Day loomed the next day and I wanted a bet on Graysful Glamour at fixed odds . As you do I observed the clients, surroundings. Terrific staff. High definition screens. 12 or so 20 to 40 year olds watching sports betting screens. 15 or so seniors backing Virtual Races .I think Keyton races were on that day with a decent Quaddie Pool. The Lovely manager of the TAB told me her weekly turn over was at least 15 % on quick bets on Virtual Races. Her percentage advantage per Virtual Racing bet was 0.25% better than Actual Racing . This is terrifying for NZ Racing.
  7. Terrific footage from Racenet !! https://www.racenet.com.au/news/emotional-reunion-as-darren-beadman-legged-back-aboard-the-champ-lonhro-20181212

  9. Chevy I was very lucky to own a champion Hurdler that Pete Henley Trained. He used to beat Coruba Cruise. We took him to Aussie. He was an amazing athlete over the hurdles. His winning sequence was 12 in a row over sticks.Bob Bond trained him as well when Pete and Louis went to Sydney.
  10. I Never thought I would promote Trotting at Alex Park on a Friday night in a Galloping forum ! We fought for years to get legalised betting on Amateur Thoroughbred Riders events and they are such a welcome addition to supporting our industry.(Lower grade horses and bloody hard working riders.) Tonight we see another Saddle Trot. R 8 @ 9:44pm. I am sure this series will be very very popular in the industry. Quite a spectacle they are and some one reminded me the other week that I won two of them in the good old days of Car boot Bookies and Equalisators back in the 70's.
  11. Good form for Japan available from: http://japanracing.jp/en/racing/result/ Worth 574 million Yen.That site gives odds too. Only one Deep Impact in the field of just 14 this year. I Seem to remember Horlicks beat a field of 18. The Japs are so very lucky we didn't take Soroc over for their Japan Cup. The boat trip would have taken 5 weeks and we couldn't afford a Boeing 788 -777 Almond Eye is the Oaks winner who is favourite for the Japan Cup http://www.jbis.jp/horse/0001203363/record/
