  1. Form comments on some of tomorrow's matches. HORLICKS v MR TIZZ A total miss match. The Horlicks Team of Rev, Jim, Phil and Aaron are notorious slow beginners early in these competitions. Most of them look like Horlicks in colour. Rev and Jim more interested in seeing Jim Kerr and Simple Minds at Claudelands, Hamilton. The TIZZ Team should dominate. Mr Gee, Dogstar are in form and Winner 69 may have resurfaced from his position.Goodison consistent place getter. Verdict: 1.5 points to MR TIZZ. SHOW GATE V MCGINTY Match of the day. The stacked and wiley Show Gate team will be in conference mode on Friday night. Will there be leadership issues with so much talent ? Scooby asking for domestic harmony from Joan and Insider. Monty Drum a rising star, but how will he handle the Friday evening conference? The McGinty team will have the edge tomorrow. Nomates, who has plenty, ( of mates ) is a point scoring machine. Backed up by long shot Memphis, Pogo and the unknown Little. Verdict : 2 points to McGinty VEANDERCROSS VS MUFHASA Narrow Favourites for this clash are Kloppite, Right F Time, Pondy and Say No More for team Veandercross. Huge talent from three of them and god knows Paul Pondy can select a 40 /1 shot from left field.....Paul deserves another win as one of our major sponsors and good guys on Race Cafe.. The ( once upon a time trained by Stephen McKee champion) Mufhasa Team includes Sayer, Seddon, Richie and Group one selector Seddon. Verdict : 1 point to the Shane Dye "I rode him great " horse V Cross. IMPERATIZ VS SUNLINE Wrinkles will add huge points value to the already favourite Sunline team. We all hope you can wake up in the morning Wrinkles. Brave man. And out point the opposition. Strongly backed up by Pink, Kilcoyne, and Pegasus. Jack, Ohakaman, Peter RS and ? will represent The fantastic name of Imperatiz so well. Verdict 2.5 points to Sunline More predictions could follow tomorrow. No Correspondence or replies will be tolerated . ( NOT )
  2. Book closes Sat, 27 Jan 2024, 4.01pm I would be very very wary of the the 5th horse in the list making the field or even starting in this event. You've been warned. 3. The closing of Macau Racing will be of no consequence to NZ or indeed Asian Racing. Some will applaud the decision. The words corrupt, unsafe and rigged, echoe around Macau. Casino owner Stanley Ho, who died at age 98 recently, had extensive racing interests in NZ, through his daughter Deborah. Macau racing did however give a young Bruce Sherwin the chance to further his fledgling career as a Race Commentator. He was a sensation. Cliff Goss, the 90 year old super grand dad Trainer of Gold Watch and " The Princess" should write a book on his time Training in Macau.

  8. Wrinkles....

How are you doing there buddy ?
I know there have been health issues for you.

  10. Congratulations, Lady Pam. You are such a Wonderful trainer and a beautiful person. My brother and I have not had a suitable horse to send south, to you. A few went to Kelvin Tyler or Bruce Tapper, through our Matamata connections. Some should have gone to Stewart Island or even further south but ended up in wonderful day care, RDA, or rehab homes. May many more wonderful successes come your way, Lady Pam. Rev Somervell

  14. She is a Very good staying mare, Jools. Her dam by Zabeel. Nassak Diamond's last start in NZ was a 7th at Counties 2400m .some how she showed enough for her Trainers/ owners to pay up for the J CUP. Her start before was 12/13 behind Nest Egg over 2400m. at Te Rapa. Congratulations to Shaun and young Colm. and the Oaks Stud.
  15. Some notes and History behind The Jericho Cup raced at Warrnabool ,South Victoria at 6:55pm Sunday 3rd December. ( Supplied by Jericho Cup website ). Best of luck and stamina to the two NZ Trained horses and NZ bred gallopers. I have raced a few that needed more than the distance of today's Cup,4600m . APPROACHING THE END OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR THE AUSTRALIAN LIGHT HORSE WERE PLANNING A MAJOR OFFENSIVE AGAINST THE TURKISH EMPIRE. IN ORDER TO LULL THE ENEMY INTO BELIEVING NOTHING UNUSUAL WAS AFOOT, A RACE MEETING WAS ORGANISED ON THE EVE OF THE ASSAULT. The main race was called The Jericho Cup over 3 miles through the desert sands. The winner was Bill the Bastard, probably Australia’s Greatest War Horse. His exploits are detailed in the book Bill the Bastard by noted historian Professor Roland Perry. You can read Chapter 24 “The Ruse” here. It tells the story of the first Jericho Cup. The Jericho Cup will be re-run annually (4th Sunday after the Melbourne Cup) from the 100th anniversary in 2018 to honour Bill the Bastard, the Australian Light Horsemen and their magnificent mounts – The Walers 1914 to 1918. After the disaster of the Gallipoli landing they collectively formed the spearhead of the Allied Forces in the Middle East. They destroyed the centuries old Ottoman Empire and drove the Turks from the Holy Land. Traditionally we have remembered the disaster and not the ultimate victory
  16. Pakaraka Star .... your last selection is being watched by hundreds. Waterhouses lovely English Derby winner Serpentine . I hope he leads and gets a beaten by a small margin for you.
  17. Te Rapa R 8 Cornwallis Te Rapa R 9 Dajeida Wanganui R 8 Semper Magico ( One life remaining )
  18. Sparrow you legend !! Hopefully we can both survive another round after our 2 / 3 winners last week !! And also the mighty Say no More. I would be very nervous about your Te Rapa R10 #1 Agera selection. The Dunstan Feeds 2100m qualifier. Very good young staying horse, Sparrow. He needs luck in his off pace running style. Let's hope Karen's # 14 BLUE sky At Night out lunges Agera. To keep you alive. Buddy.
  19. Brilliant wins by Sacred Satono and Taunting. today !! Both were in my three to get beat selections. Great racing at Counties on what I think used to be $20,000 Day then raised to $30,000 day. Thank you Scoobie and John for a great competition !!

  22. Chris Wood, very sad.I have Wonderful memories of a champion hard bloke. Brian Collins. BC was and is a Great Man. Kind and very fair. Staunch. BC helped me get the Video on course video contract at Counties, along with Haubie and Sir Brian Mollett and that awful bloke Sir Kim Clotworthy. BC taught me, earlier in my life, how to load thoroughbreds onto planes. With propellers. How to deal with the union rules for off loading thoroughbreds in Aussie. His TAB account balance will probably go to the " The injured Jockeys fund" or " The rehabilitation /education of Jockeys who rode my Horses poorly " or Brian Collins book " How to Train Races as an Owner " Love and thoughts Rev
