  5. Veteran trainer Wayne Walters has been fined $2000 after pleading guilty to a conduct charge arising from a post-race interview at Mt Gambier last month. Walters had been charged with conduct prejudicial to the image, interest and welfare of racing after he spoke to Racing.com in an interview on March 22 following the eighth race at Mt Gambier, with Racing SA stewards taking exception with his description of the track surface. "Track's shit and they raced accordingly," Walters told the Racing.com correspondent of earlier beaten runners at the beginning of the interview. Stewards said that in determining the penalty, they had regard for Walters' record, his forthrightness at the inquiry, his contrition for his conduct, his guilty plea and his long-standing involvement in the industry. However, stewards noted that, as a licensed person, it was totally inappropriate for the trainer to make the comments he did about the track. "Comments of this type have the distinct and real potential to cause prejudice to the image and interests of racing," the report read. "As a licensed person, Mr Walters had other avenues to address matters of concern he may have had with the track. His comments, which were unprovoked and were made of his own free will, lack the level of decorum expected of participants in the industry." Stewards imposed a $2000 fine but ordered that $1000 of it be suspended for two years, provided Walters is not found guilty of a conduct-related matter in that period. Article copied from Racing.com. site. NOTE : I remember many exchanges between the Walters boys, Graham and Wayne, and their trainers, other jockeys and often owners. This is mild. But it reminds me why Sir Dummy doesn't allow live interviews any more. Back to NewsHubBrowse related articles
  6. The Australian Aboriginal god called Kirrama ( meaning Big and Plentiful ) is the only one who knows where you keep getting these ideas from, John boy. Legend that you are , thankyou for thinking up these side competitions. Your fellow very tragic Race Cafe competition entrants wonder how you do all the computations and instant up dates. Thank you. Rev
  7. Jim you always note the very important point of difference. Thank you. I would have missed this if you had not posted. Alex Oliveira Cody Cole and Pertab trialed very nice horses as you mentioned from the Waikato region . Jesus, Jim, imagine the float fees. Hopefully those astute trainers get to market their progeny and sell them. Off grass track form.
  8. This is the Don Ha NZ herald article on the day of purchase :of Lot 411 ( Zabeel - Sunline colt https://www.theage.com.au/sport/racing/estate-agent-cum-horse-trader-cleans-up-on-sunline-colt-20070131-ge440n.html
  9. Chevy 86 great man ! you must be referring to the DON HA who had a vision in his shower the morning he bought Sunline's first foal ? ( there is a NZ Herald article somewhere out there that Mike Dillon wrote about Don Ha going to Karaka to buy his legend Colt ) Don HA was an Asian Real Estate sales agent who owned his own Agency. The colt , Don HA purchased was Lot 411 in Patricks Draft of 2007.. Knocked down for $2 million to Manakau Bloodstock . HA named his colt Sun Ruler . he won two races. Sir Trevor McKee did his best. ( I don't think Stephen was a co trainer , maybe wrong ) Sam Spratt won on Sun Ruler at his 6th Maiden Start at Avondale ( 24.04.09 ) after Lethal Leith had ridden him twice. Sun Ruler then won his very next start at Te Rapa , but it was ( 8 months later and hello, Lethal was on board ) . By this stage I think that Don Ha was planning trips to the Cox Plate and Europe .With his 2 win colt. Maybe to exhort his Real Estate talents and so called false multi talents. Sun Ruler had 6 more NZ starts after his narrow win over his full sister " Sunstrike " at Te Rapa 19.12.09. He was never placed after that start. S R went to stud with lovely people. Limited mares. What happened to Don Ha and his ownership in horses and his unpaid fees ?
  10. Ohaka. Genius post by you mate ! I Loved your pics of Sweens and Blake. Mark R has so much knowledge and like my self , Pete Early and Alby Gain and Jim Smith a face for Radio only !! ( I mean that very kindly ) Contrasting. clashing colours.

  13. The Enigma code was decided at our Horlicks Team Retreat at Tauherenikau race Course. Jim, Aaron and Your good self will have to continue to deny any such Race Cafe meeting of team Horlicks , ever took place. Our Horlicks Team game strategy is working well. Aaron led early with points. Alf selected a bolter, as planned, in round 10. Jim our Gub man wonder , consistently pots the points. I Can not see the Veandercross team with 30 points and 21 K having the skills to beat us on Saturday ! So there you have it !!

  15. Alan Jones and Linda were also a huge part of shaping Jame's early pastoral care. Raising Calves with his mum and dad Di and Brett. His work ethic. He also had a very early career trip with George Simon and Phil V to Ireland.. NZ since 1980 has had few international rated Hoops. ( defined by premier Group One, wins in at least 3 Countries or jurisdictions but not over jumps ) We have had riding marvels like Brent Thompson ( 4 Cox Plates and Group wins in at least 4 Countries.), Lance O'Sullivan , Australia , Japan NZ J Mac is on target to ride more Group One winners in different jurisdictions than Ryan Moore !
  16. ALF !! BB on Zapitaoaoaoaoao. Might get Horlicks off 1 point !!

  18. Click on the HKJC web site / results. In HK every runner in every race has a Judicial Control comment. In numerical descending order. Post Race. For the last 15 years I have been lobbying for the same Judicial reporting format in NZ. that HK has.. We need the same form format in NZ. to sync with the World Wide betting pools. Our two websites NZ RACING and the new Entain TAB need to get their act together. Combine all Race horse data into one accessible site. As investors in our industry we need to have all information including Judicial reports available when we click on a horse.. Racing .com do this very well and have links to each runner's judicials reports, previous gear worn, lead out by pony pre race, Hood pre race. In NZ we have reverted or still adhere to a simplistic race day report, which Judge Tony Ryan said reminded him of Samoa. Stenographers who can not spell correctly. Dates incorrectly recorded . i.e The Peter Tims case . Incorrectly recorded statements from participants who Maurice McBreen defended and won So have a look at this from yesterday Tauranga R5 FROCKED UP GIRLS 3YO Following the running of this race connections of the second placed horse VALENTINE lodged a protest alleging interference in the final straight against the winner AQUILIFER. After viewing replays and considering submissions the Adjudicator upheld the protest with the amended placings being 1 st VALENTINE, 2 nd AQUILIFER, 3rd SHE TURNS HEADS, 4 th IMPERIAL EMPRESS. Who is The Adjudicator in this case ? Is it a one person or a majority vote. From a 4 person panel ? 20. Idol , you have probably stuffed Jim's ( Gubbiline ) matrimonial Saturday evening. The great man will be ferreting back through his Turf Registers until Sunday morning. For NZ results. Quinella's bets were probably introduced about 60 years . Sir Jim Gibbs, the great Matamata Trainer loved the quinellas as an extra source of income. When he charged $22 / day. 24 horse fields don't exist in Australasia any more, Idol. Further yonder The English Grand National has probably thrown up two double digit quinella numbers. The Melbourne Cup of 1990 raced on the 6th November was won by Sir Barts Kingston Rule . from The Phantom and Mr Brooker. Someone on RCafe will have that result as per their horse numbers. And the massive quinella and first three ( trifecta ) divie. I caught a plane from Hamilton direct flight to Melbourne Cup and return the next day. Special promotion. We never made the return flight after Kingston Rule's win. Days and magic memories that we all cherish.

  23. Thanks Charlie. Good man you, for mentioning all those other great horses.Thank you. Altitude, being a colt could have left a dynasty. I was also videoing the Waipa Trials when that awesome galloper Weston Lea broke his leg. Tony Allan had won the lead up races to the Derby on him I didn't film any more trials that day. I went and sat with Laurie in his car. Tough bloke . Cried hard. Then he went to check Sheila had tightened the girth on a maiden 5 trials later.
  24. Ellerslie Derby day, eve. A race that still gets us " bodgies and our woodshies , sheilas " born in the 1950's excited. The race previously the Great Northern Derby was raced on Boxing Day. It has meta morphed itself since 1973. This was not intended to be a History lesson. It was always raced Right Handed until Sharp n Smart's win last year at Te Rapa for Debbie Rogerson and a co Trainer. There will be Racing Tragics on Race Cafe , like me, who were on course when Sobig won in 1964 and then saw his mighty black Son Kirrama win the Derby in 1970 . Others of you ( maybe 4 ) may have been on course when I filmed Balmerino in 1975 with a hand held super 8 mm camera. But the 1981 Derby day will be with me forever. Altitude, the great horse had won his previous 8 starts going into the Derby. No other horse before him, going into a Derby anywhere in the world had won eight races straight. SIr Steven Autridge was unbeaten on the Bill Ford trained Altitude. Altitude ( Sammy Boy ) had a fatal bleeding attack and died 21 minutes after the Derby. More memories post here.
