Race 2 at Rangiora today. Start time scheduled to start at 12.40pm. Owing to an enquiry which took hours to conduct and ended with no charges, the race finally started at 1.19pm. During this time the horses were left circling behind the mobile. This is not good enough, not fair on the horses and not fair on the punter. A disgrace and should not be allowed to happen.

So myo-inositol trispyrophosphate (ITPP), a product which increases the oxygen level in a horse's tissues by 35%, is in your mind not a performance enhancing drug? The racing industry worldwide would beg to differ with you. Why would a trainer have been willing to spend $2000 on it I wonder ? )

Thing that amazes me is that the article was written by someone has been so "intimately" involved with the defendant!

Anthony Butt was this week convicted on a charge brought by the Ministry of Primary Industries of failing to declare unclean racing gear when returning from Australia. This is fitting justice to a man who treated the law with contempt and showed no consideration for the horse industry in this country. I hope Harness Racing will follow this up with a charge of their own.

There are some very unimpressed owners and trainers of four year olds out there who, not wanting to have to race seasoned five year olds, planned their campaigns without including the jewels and have now finished their racing programs and turned their horses out for a spell. You have to wonder at the thinking of the HR exec.

Stewards report up now. Evidently a horse jumped track markers which had been dislodged in the previous race and not cleared. Stipes ruled that three of those horses who were disadvantaged by the resulting skirmish be late scratchings. This was over ruled by the JCA and the placings stood in the order horses crossed the line.

What sort of shambles went on after this race- the Stratford Cup? - skirmish 200 metres out from finish - three horses late scratched them reinstated. Who is making the rules here?
