  1. Coming down the outside rail in January............... We all know the big clubs aren't interested in on-course betting turnover, there are no benefits to the club to have their patrons punting and boosting nz racing, but the club can make money off food and drink. Poor turnover in relation to stakes is only scrutinised when it involves a smaller club that is racing midweek or at the wrong time of year. Do the big clubs still get those massive advertising budgets for their carnivals from NZTR?
  2. He's a socialist. Nothing good will come of this
  3. Fermoy you seem sick in the head, laughing at people's misfortune. Perhaps you've had too many boosters ?
  4. Here is Medsafe's official list of REPORTED vaccine injuries https://www.medsafe.govt.nz/COVID-19/vaccine-report-overview.asp
  5. I think it is best for the health of the industry that the jockeys and trainers delete their scanners off their phones
  6. I bet you are. Put your mask, earmuffs and blindfold back on
  7. Then why the mandates? Why the vaccine passes?
  8. Doubt it, he will be vaccinated
  9. I enjoy it Berri , Can you move it to main street please Scooby? Cheers
  10. Surely this latest dusty yarn is just a rumour, more chance of the vaccine limiting the spread than the latest Gayford yarn to be true
  11. In the UK they arw dropping mandates as they had a release of data. They had to release how many people have died solely of covid. The figures which are 180,000 WITH covid have now dropped to 17,000 Of covid in 2 years. To put that in perspective 20,000 people die of flu in the UK EVERY YEAR. So less people have died from Covid alone than the flu.... https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/covid19alonewithnounderlininghealthissuesnovemeber2019todecember2021?fbclid=IwAR3DVnYLO6c_bPUUW131CY-J7bBwnT8TWJ3IOHv-KdS0l1lkiWERsa70mp4
  12. Yes that is fair, don't mandate an injection for the young and healthy because you're scared the injection doesn't work for you. You can hide if you're scared of omicron
  13. Getting back to the Covid Passports, I've got a question for the passport cheerleaders. Say I'm a fat old man going to the races at Trentham, I'm ready to flash my passport at the gate but I'm getting held up in the queue and I'm already feeling a bit vulnerable in the crowd despite having had my booster. Once I'm in the gate I shuffle over to the back of the stand and begin to climb the stairs. Because I'm fat and old and used to be a smoker I take my mask off to climb the stairs, while I'm sucking in the big ones some ignorant young bastard that is running down the stairs sneezes right in front of me. So now, I'm huffing and puffing in a panic because I have no faith in the vaccine and I'm paranoid that the youth has delta. Question - Am I glad that the youth has a vax passport? (that could be five months old) OR would I feel safer if he had produced at the gate the negative result of his rapid antigen test he had taken that morning?

  15. Because the vaccine does not stop us catching covid or spreading it, the vaccine passports are useless. Us vaccinated people only have a 13% better chance of avoiding covid than the unvaxxed If we are slightly worried about avoiding covid at the races - then the only way to have a safe event is for people to show a very recent negative covid test. Ideally the saliva test at the gate, or even better would be the breathalyzer if comrade allows it. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-breath-test-device-developed-dunedin-childcare-staff-try-it-out/SSFPQ7GN27DWVOSHIDTFUIRSPM/ The vaccine passports are useless when it comes to covid health.
  16. Some interesting changes NZTR Directions Paper.pdf
  17. I'm guessing our policeman in the north has had the dream result? He was double jabbed and caught covid, so now he is all but certain to only have mild symptoms? And because he has the virus he will now have natural immunity for life? And won't need to worry himself with boosters? Unless one of the next variants is so much different than delta that his natural immunity to delta is worthless? If this virus worked like chicken pox, wouldn't we all be best to attend a delta party two weeks after our second jab?
  18. Our radical socialist government and media are destroying this country at an alarming rate. We are not the only country intent on self destruction, amazing what the democrats are doing to the USA. China will be laughing their heads off
  19. Garry Chittick on costs https://waikatostud.com/the-corner-with-garry-chittick-3/ As you get older, the level of cynicism increases. According to my wife, a cynic I have always been. There may be an element of truth in Mary’s view but in this woke world a degree of cynicism is more than ever required. The Webster Dictionary says cynicism is neither good nor bad but requires balance to avoid slipping into pessimism. It may be the hardening of one’s attitude as we age that is our ability to view current times through the fading eyes that have seen it all before. But as I have said many times, one can’t be a pessimist and a horse breeder, therefore I claim my cynicism is based on the need to measure facts and judge them against my view of where our industry is placed. The racing industry has a justifiable mix of emotions and opinions, very few based on facts, so you two, my view expressed to you is what I know or believe is true. The industry has been well served in recent times by Brian deLores research and writings. His mix of research and opinions has guaranteed him electoral failure should he offer himself to either of the two Boards that are important to us. The arms-length independence of the Members Council is so tightly embraced the current COVID-19 virus would see them unavoidably infected. Still, as he says, his alcohol account has diminished as a result of fewer mates. His recent blog gave me cause to reflect. The increase in the RIU budget is just another casual $5m to $14m. Go back ten years and we were mortified with a budget of $6m! Brian’s Racing Boards salary spread of $27m twelve years ago peaking, well I hope peaking, at $66m is all allocated before stake money is available to owners. I’m a round figure man. This increase of $47m, let’s allow for 3% incremental costs, say to 50%, one could reasonably suggest there should have been available for our Code based on 55% of the turnover another $7k per race. We have now 1900 races against 3000 twelve years ago. We have 4200 starters now, 5800 then. Stakes now $48m, then $58m. Has there been a comparative decline in turnover? No, with our turnover driven by Australian Racing. So you see, I may be, but I leave it to you two to work out who the beneficiaries of our endeavours are. I wouldn’t mind if I believed in or had confidence in our current administrators to see this for what it is. Instead, we get Jacinda-like comforting reports on how well we are doing. Like the tooth fairy, we are fed similar platitudes. Like her, the stories seldom align with the facts. You be the judge. Dealing in facts on a brighter note, page 198 of the current Stallion Register is the list of the stallions in order of the number of stakes horses they have sired. If you have a Register, have a look. The achievements of Danehill and Galileo are amazing but then so are the deeds of our own. Of the top 32 down to O’Rielly, seven only were domestically based, that is they never had the opportunity of doubling their crop. Our own Zabeel with 166 stakes winners is the leading sire, followed by Sir Tristram, Encosta De Lago, Savabeel in 4th with 115 to date is 15 behind Sir Tristram, with more than half a chance of overtaking the great sire. Zabeel is comfortably out of reach, however we Kiwis should be very proud to have 4 of the 10 sires domestically based among the 50 leading sires. It was illuminating to see just how many horses were given the dual hemisphere opportunity. The sire standings for 2020/2021 are a true measure of Australasia’s ability to produce the horses our racing demands. The weekend’s results of the Winx Group 1 quinella lull us into a false sense of security as we have no colonial bred first season sire on offer this year. If a cynic was to look years out, the question would be what’s going to change? The success of the breed we have evolved is there for all to see. Cheers G BACK TO GARRY'S CORNER: NEWS
  20. Big difference in stake money as well, between Timaru last weekend and Riccarton this Saturday
  21. Is it possible to download Race video from the nzracing site? If so, how? Thanks
  22. The two northern meetings received a one hour preview on Trackside TV on Saturday morning. First I heard of Ascot Park was three minutes before the first race? Unfair comparison?
  23. I was one of many Southlanders at the NZTR roadshow in Invercargill last week. Bernard and Jackson spoke about a few things, one being, that punters want the consistency the synthetic track will bring. Kelvin Tyler, Steve Blair-Edie, Jo Gordon and Ellis Winsloe all spoke clearly and strongly against the synthetic track at Riccarton, citing the damage it would do to South Island racing, race programming ie they need Oamaru and Timaru to stay, and funding the on-going maintenance costs of the synthetic etc etc. Everybody else who spoke was against it too (except maybe one, and I don't know what he was even on about). Bernie said their concerns were noted. I don't think the southern participants could be accused of not complaining, but they're probably the easiest to ignore. http://www.theoptimist.site/gallop-south-calls-for-justice-through-constitutional-change/ http://www.theoptimist.site/riccartons-synthetic-track-debate-heats-up-as-roadshow-heads-south/ Jo Gordon said no Southland trainers would move their base to Riccarton.
