  1. From a broadcast point of view the coverage was great wallpaper, something great to have on in background with some amazing HD pictures coming through. But for me this day is all about tits and bums, short skirts, Heineken, Steinlager Pure, Red Bull and Vodka, the Auckland A- List ( although BeeCees presence put that in doubt), a party!!!! This is where the coverage should have concentrated. Who wouldn't want to be at that party? Brendon Pongia was a disgrace and I am sorry but if the was the X Factor Lance would definitely join him in the bottom 2 Jo Cotton and Josh floundered. Racing doesn't need 'imported' celebrity hosts. I think there is a real opportunity for a TV production company to reintroduce ' Ellerslie' as a reality show based around the very cool culture Chris and the guys at Ellerslie have created. It is very 'now' and would resonate far more with the Y generation. ( or is it X?) Imagine the Jersey Shore inspired series with characters such as The Weaver, The Butcher, The Doully, The Sheriff, ...............and the girls of Ellerslie goes without saying
  2. The world darts from London was some of the most compulsive sports viewing of 2011 for me. Pretty sure it would have rated pretty well. Sure it was in a prime time being the holiday period and coming in from England at a great time for us but the competition was thrilling, skillful lots of laughs! For some of the radio sports jocks to diss this as not being sport especially gym bunnies like Willie Losse was utter BS. More please Sky TV
  3. Haven't caught up with CNN's Breaking News as yet. What time did they manage to call last drinks in the Counties Pressies room on cup day?
  4. Don't want to sound mean but was that an embarrassing field running on an embarrassing track?
  5. The hottest thing on TV is leaving! Snared by Trackside TV to triple ratings?
  6. Where is the response from Counties?
  7. I had one of my greatest wins at Avondale. remember the race?
  8. Observation 1. Des Coppins show on a Sunday on Trackside radio. Symptomatic of what is wrong with racing. Same callers average age 100 with great stories to tell about past glories but boring with an audience that must be dropping off by the day Observation 2. Live races shown from the country Australia. They are fantastic postcards and take you to another place like a European subtitled film. But something you would never bet on. Some of this stuff should be on the travel Channel. Observation 3 Congratulations to Chris Weaver, the only administrator trying to bring the game into 2011
  9. So can I ask. Is there any connection between pokie rorts and the harness jewels?
  10. Would be really interested to know how these pokies rorts are carried out? Is it a simple or complex business? Is the practice still going on?
  11. The days of having all races on a ten race card being sponsored are well gone. The LEST WE FORGET SPRINT at Hawkes Bay yesterday shows you how silly and disrespectful it has all got. Even worse is how clubs ring existing sponsors to ask if they can can give them more exposure by giving them 'extra' race names. If i was a sponsor I would be outraged if my brand was being used to simply prop up a race naming rights in a deflated market. Why not be a little creative and use race names for some social comment? How about The WE THINK DAVID BAIN DID IT 1600? or The TIKI TANE IS INNOCENT PLATE or The MINING AND OFFSHORE OIL IS OUR FUTURE 1200
  12. Yep I realise a Group 1 is a Group 1 BUT for some reason Group 1 racing in Melbourne seems to have more excitement, theatre, sense of expectation than in Sydney. Anyone agree?
  13. Thanks to SKY and who ever was director at Ellerslie today. The absolutely stunning women captured enjoying the day made me proud to be a New Zealander. I would have put many of them up against anywhere in the world. Inspired coverage. Thanks SKY. If that doesn't get people to the races I don't know what will.
